But I actually think this is part of a much larger problem. On the Diaspora/Friendica federation the same things happens and they have a 6 years headstart on Steemit. The user is responsible for gathering the content of the feed and everything is then simply placed in the feed based on the time it was posted. There is no algorithm that tries to filter and manipulate, which is a good thing. But with too few tools it is inevitable that the feed will get to big and difficult to overview. I once proposed a way you could make more feeds in Diaspora. It was never really taken serious - the small developer team had more than enough to do with just making the federation work.

But I might dust it off and propose it here - all the same things applies really.
