For the last few months the Steemit site has been losing viewers and dropping in the Alexa rankings. Today it improved by one place! Maybe that's a cause for optimism, but I won't get too excited just yet. This is from Hypestat that provides lots of extra stats without it having to pay.
I keep an eye out for any media mentions of Steem or Steemit. They quite often get mentioned in pieces about other services that might compete, e.g. Minds. Steemit has a marketing team and some funds, but they appear to be holding off until they are ready to go mainstream.
For now we should keep trying to add spread awareness of this platform. We need to get more quality early adopters on board. There must be lots of disillusioned YouTubers who could use the extra income.
Steem on!

Not just YouTubers, we should get Deviant Art people coming by the truckload. In addition; I'd love to see intellectuals and thinkers paid for their blogs / content.
We've got a decent art community now, and a good gaming community. I'd love to see more makers. Adam Savage types, really.
I agree , more makers! there are some though. @jefpatat @steemmakers @makerhacks are the one that just comes to mind. myself to some extend. I am pretty sure, none of us are in Adam Savages league, but we try :-). I think @steemmakers is a good place to find more , maybe on steemmakers.com where they collect the ones they feature in an external site.
The price of STEEM and others are not doing it any favours. A friend of mine, the one who sold you the cases seems to be very bitter about Steemit and has promised an article about why he thinks this is the case. It hasnt arrived yet.., but will prove interesting when he delivers.
These incentives such as @steemhunt and @tasteem may help but as I mentioned to @bozz, are they the kind of things that are interesting for us as readers to view, or is is content just for the sake of giving more back to planktons and minnows?
I thnk more of these are going to arrive and Steemit is going to morph into something else.
Steemit has been through a lot of this already and it hasn't really changed much. The Steem need to be distributed more broadly, but they also need to be according to a meritocratic principle. Right now the monetary investors are favoured, but it would be better if it was balanced so quality content also was seen as investment.
The Steem price is affected by external events like exchange hacks. It will have to grow on its own strengths. I still think the platform is viable. We will see it expand with various apps. They will need to be financially viable to survive as I don't think Steemit will support them indefinitely. It's all a big experiment and there will be fresh ideas. As I've said, we will need ways to control the sort of content we see in our feed.
Just 3 hours ago there was another one, but so far Im not seeing any major price corrections, which is a little surprising. - https://www.coindesk.com/bithumb-exchanges-31-million-hack-know-dont-know/
I'd just seem that story. It doesn't help investor confidence
I think it comes down to a platform that isn't very nice to use compared to other social media. I've introduced quite a few to it. They sign up all excited, then disappear because the experience is frustrating/boring.
I think it's as fun as you make it. I get good responses to my posts and I follow interesting people so I want to come back each day. People do that on other sites for no reward. We have to teach a critical mass of users for it to really take off
And also coming from Medium!

Steem on!
It is not easy bringing people on board, but I try my best to. I make videos talking about steemit. The thing is that we need to bring people who are in this for the long run.
Certain people just want to come in and make mony, they forget that Rome was not built in a day.
I know that better days are coming.
I have noticed a lot of inactive users while going through my following list recently. Many of them started off really strong too!
I don't know if I want Steemit to go mainstream. I know it would be beneficial in some ways, but I like Steemit kind of being a secret. Imagine how Steemit's content would change if all the Facebook minded people flocked over here.
It will change if we get millions here. That will bring some challenges
That is really interesting especially since they are always talking about how many new Steemit accounts are being added every day. You would think that the trend would be the opposite.
Those new accounts are just not cancelling our those who give up. People need to stick with it for longer as it takes time to build yourself up
I can agree with that. It is a long climb!
I've managed to bring a few people across but they have gone away again unfortunately. They seem to find it less user friendly and frustrating. It can't be too difficult to use though because few are less technical than me and I manage to enough of a degree to make it worthwhile. Perhaps promises of instant riches that I've seen from some are damaging and disheartening.
Those who come for the quick buck are likely to be disappointed. I wouldn't sell it like that. If say there's potential to earn, but you have to work for it
Yes I agree. I suppose there's always the angle of even if it's only one cent it's one cent more than anything on that other platform and of course what is one cent today could be one dollar in the future. I don't like using any kind of financial angle to get people on here but it seems to be what gets people's attention. They don't seem to care about the transparency or lack of censorship on here as much as the money. I suppose by showing people that it can work for us, they will be more likely to think it can work for them too. Let's just keep on steemin on eh. We'll show em ;)
For now Steemit lacks on content that will attract the masses. There's a bit of a chicken/egg situation there as big stars won't sign up if there's no audience. They can make more elsewhere for now.
They've not seen that song you sang yesterday ;) I suppose more kudos to the few 'celebs' that have made the move over here. I hope it works out for them if that means it works out for all of us.
There's some work involved in being active on any social site and so people have to decide what is worth their time. We have enough interesting people for me to keep on coming back
Same here. They say we can only know about 50 people fairly well so I suppose there doesn't have to be too many good content creators to engage quite an audience. And for the good content creators, now is a good time to be creating good content I suppose. I'll keep being optimistic about it all :)
Glad to know that!
but we want countinous uprise if we want to see steemit.com under 1k in Alexa rankings.
No matter what will happen, the platform is really valuable for the community incomparision to the othef platform..
There are some reasons like hacks which influnce the platform but when it develops its own strength then it can overcome these problems..
Correct saying ! I also, noticed that steemr site is loosing fine viewer.
i support you man ,go ahead .
I'll proceed anyway :) I'm interested in good comments, not flattery
