Oh no we wanna keep long form too! We still operate in the same way, rewarding several people with Curie and The Steem Guild,
But we also reward good comments (not the same rate as a long form article) and short articles with some thing like half of what we reward a long from articles.
What happens in some short posts is that other whales double up on them and end up higher, but the same happen to long post form as well, they all get the same percentage vote (to reach more people) but some of them get votes from other whales.
Bottom line, quality is what's important. If you check the ones who made it yesterday, pappa-pepper, lemouthe, justtryme..etc they all added value.
I guess to answer your question, we still believe in the first thing Ned and Dan were saying in the begining, to be a hybrid between Medium, Facebook, and Reddit.
It's just rewarding engagement, that's all.
I like that idea as well, it gives us some more freedom to express and create a more open interaction with each other. I am new here and trying to figure out how to connect with others is still a learning process. Plus, for the people who want to relax and enjoy 'what's news' or even to enjoy having some fun is necessary.
Yeah that's what we though too.
I hope you enjoy your experience here in steemit it among so many amazing people, and have fun of course :)
