HARD FORK
In little under 3 hours the STEEM BLOCKCHAIN will undergo its latest Hard Fork, but what actually is a Hard Fork?
I am often asked by people that they have heard a couple of terminologies that they struggle to grasp:
- ROAD MAP
- HARD FORK
For the ones that are totally familiar with the terms we must not forget that there are many out there that see these terms as alien to them.
In this Blog I simply wanted to help those understand what they mean by explaining them in simple terms.
ROAD MAP
The Road Map that has been set out for the year is a plan of the Fundamental and Functionality Changes that are set to be applied to the Blockchain.
In simple terms think of it as a Road Map that will allow you to plan a route for a journey.
Before setting off on your journey it is always a great idea to have your route set out.
The STEEM Blockchain ROAD MAP is in essence that planned journey to take us through the year and beyond.
HARD FORK
In simple terms a Hard Fork is where the Fundamental and Functionality Changes set out in the Road Map are implemented.
A Hard Fork lifts off and redistributes the new Functionality of the Blockchain across the nodes and resets the Fundamentals of the Blockchain.
In simple terms think of a route that is taking you in a slightly different direction and you want to change course and go OVER THE HILL..!!
The Hard Fork allows you to reset a course and take you over the hill and back on a new route.
HUGE SHOUT TO THE DEVELOPERS
I wanted to once again say a Massive STEEMIT Shout Out to the Developers for a successful Hard Fork, one of which I have every confidence in being totally seamless..!!
Thanks for reading and I hope this was useful to those who yet don't fully grasp the technicalities of the Blockchain.

let's keep our finger crossed for HF 19.
Thank you @stephenkendal for sharing this with us. I am sure the community appreciates your post as much as I do, as I actually had no idea that it will take place today, and what a Fork actually means.
I see you're an experienced blockchain user, so maybe share a bit more analysis with us in the future, I will sure keep an eye out of it.
I'll do my part to share this with as many people as I can :)
Thanks for explaining this to me, was wondering what all this really meant.
Cheers!
still hard to understand ..
Thank u for such an informative article. M new here n was very confused about HF19.
Upvoted !
As usual, explained simply and clearly for all.
I blogged about HF19 yesterday, with particular regards to minnows and users of less than 500 SP. I'm expecting Steem to rise in the coming days as SP is purchased for better management of vote power...
As 'low grade' user, I am looking forward to more SP power (in terms of effect) and expect that the changes will have a positive effect. The beauty of software is that it can be changed again later on if aspects of HF19 do not turn out as intended.

Well said 👌🏽
Ok, but why it's called Hard Fork?
You've simplified it well! Would you have any idea what the “hard” stands for, if it has special meaning?
well explained ,i now fully understand .
RESTEEMED
3 hours? do steemit servers drop?
With the hard fork can we expect Steemto rise in price?
Awesome info thanks bud. Do you think the price will change after the fork if it goes to plan?
Wonder what will happen to my pending payouts. Any clue?
I'm pretty disappointed it's going to affect our payouts and rewards. I guess itll be interesting to see how things change on here and if the content people post will be effected.
ok.... so I kind of know now about your simplified but clear explanation of the hard fork... so it will pretty much be affecting our wallets and how we navigate here in Steemit?
Hanging on........
Thanks for this and i hope that all will go well especially we all will have a level playing field to succeed.
We're all waiting to see what will happen 😳😀
Thank you that did make sense!!
I am clueless so I love the layman terms! Thank you
Crystal clear. Thanks for that explanation.
