Morality is the recognition of the distinction between good and evil or between right and wrong. It is the respect for and obedience to the rules of right conduct; the mental disposition or characteristics of behaving in a manner intended to produce morally good results.
While we follow the moral standards set by our society or religion, we fail to ask questions about its coming to being. What is the standard for good and evil? Who creates these rules? Are all the rules of your religion morally right?
These questions sometimes cross our minds and usually have no answers to them. But it's okay because we can't question our religion anyway or because we are too scared to challenge our faith (both in religion and society).
I want you to take a moment to compare our idea of morality with that of the medieval or ancient periods. You'd notice there are some changes in the idea of morality over time but we live in the same world, with the same religions and as humans alike. Take for example the dress code of over time, you'd notice that clothes become shorter and tighter over time and our idea of decency has changed. The clothes perceived to be racy back in the day are regarded regular today.
Morality gets adulterated over time; it's like pouring water in vodka to make it large enough to go around but it loses its quality. Personally, I think it couldn't be any different because all the moral codes of all the societies and religions of the universe has to be brought together under one umbrella, unified and modified to make one universal moral code. That's cool right? Unity always gives us a kind of peaceful relief. But we cannot lose sight of the fact that some good things were dropped and some bad things were picked up.
I think morality should be built on personal grounds, with the universal social code as a foundation and guide. We can add more good and drop more evil from our moral standards.
