Can anyone comment to prove this? This might sound like a silly question, but with everything that's been going my on lately (think #Vault7 etc.) how can we truly know that Steemit isn't a CIA ploy to gather even more information about people and a way of tricking non-conventional thinkers to reveal themselves.
.
.
Lol! I don't think it's illogical at all, considering what we've learned about the CIA recently! Totally feasible!
you are are correct.
YOU're not thinking.
you can NOT prove a negative.
basic logic.
Now now let's play nice :-)
I'm a simple guy asking a simple question. Okay let me rephrase: How can we be sure (i.e. what convinces you) that Steemit wasn't invented by the CIA or another big brother type agency? Said with peace and love :-)
no.
can I be sure that you are not an agent of the CIA meant to sow FUD?
one thing...I have personally read what they wrote and conversed on line with Ned And Dan...the inventors of STEEM.
YOu can easily do a little research, wim up stream a bit. And read those same post.
The blockchain is forever.
What's FUD?
fear, uncertainty, and Doubt.
The data is logged to the block-chain and for a thousand dollars (probably less) and an internet connection, you can spin up a steem-node and download all votes, posts and balances. In addition, it is encouraged that people post an 'introduceyourself' post with a photo of yourself. Instead of the CIA paying steemit for everyone's information, you get paid and the CIA gets it for free.
But wouldn't that just save time and resources for the CIA? Plus the money-incentive for us writers could just be a trick to get us out there in the open?
Absolutely. Can you write and keep your identity secret and still be successful? Steemit.com has your IP address. You could go to a cyber cafe and use another IP address. You have to be careful not to publish data like of people in your personal life, also. They could be used later to threaten you if you are going to write about say #pizzagate.
Omg I didn't know that! So that raises another question! What's stopping Steemit owners of selling/releasing IP addresses to the CIA or big corps?!!
Anytime you use your computer to connect to another you expose your Internet address. This is analogous to writing a post card mail. Your return mailing address is on the card you send, and with the exception the return address must be there or you will not get a response from the postcard. Now, in the Internet world, your return address is your IP address, and the card you send is a request for say '/' to the address at steemit.com, and the response is the content of the webpage.
It is similar whether you use web, ftp, bitcoin, or bittorrent. In order to convert an IP into a home address would require your ISP. Bittorrent and bitcoin in particular do not go to some central server but rather to random nodes so its harder to go to thousands of node operators.
The mitigations are TOR or VPN. one VPN is hide.me.
Thanks for that explanation!
It's a DIA ploy. The Decentralized Intelligence Agency.
Lol! I like that! But seriously- can anyone prove it? I'm not being facetious I'm really interested :-)
Nope. I can't prove it. Please tell me more about your non-conventional thinking. We're... um, I'm very interested.
Lol! You know what I mean! As in thinking like maybe the government isn't our friend after all; maybe they are in bed with the corporations; tax is theft etc etc...
Ploy or not, every post you make is a permanent record on the blockchain for anyone to see. The CIA could certainly use the information on here, but then so could anyone else. The thing they CAN'T do is censor or change the information. Maybe not a very good tool if you're in the business of manipulating information.
Okay so I see that that's a major positive. So the fact that anyone can say anything would play against nafarious agencies like the CIA etc.
Interesting question.
Yeah I think it is!
Burden of proof.
