HOW DO YOU COMPOSE FOR STEEMIT?! - Easy to Use Tools to Author Steemit Posts?!

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

![GUI design cropped.png] (this bug in the Steemit editor intentionally left here to demonstrate just how badly this needs to get fixed.... thx, JP ()

IF THERE IS ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ON STEEMIT, it is how people compose their stories for publication.

I had one of the first Apple Mac machines, and it was a pleasure to use, compared to ANY other computer of it's time.

It made me realize, there are always new tools, new concepts, new ways of going about any task, any pursuit; and the rules just change entirely, as new tools are applied.

As another example of this, TODAY, we see DTUBE!

(I assume I'll look back someday and remember this last week, like few others..)

There's a change coming to VLOGGING, make no mistake...   and maybe a fight with powerful entities.

Something that can't be controlled; brings out Armies!  ;-(

For those that have used templates, and/or HTML, and MarkDown to post on Steemit:

As it exists today; what's the most efficient way to generate a post with full control of typography; and still have use of a great UI, or an excellent editing environment?

I hope you will share your personal setup, toolset, or editing style!

I'm still new; I've spent time working with the existing steemit editors, reading a few posts on HTML templates, and still wondering, out of dozens of solutions I might want to try, what's the first to try?

I've used HTML GUIs, and they can be excellent.

(I personally think the GMAIL editor is pretty decent, has just the right amount of typography UI features, and I'd like to see this type of GUI editor be part of the Steemit web interface.)

I'm a fan of a dozen text editors.

I am a librarian and can keep a folder of blogging templates in HTML.

And Markdown?   Never got a chance to learn it; it's kind of nerdy as I see it; NEVER standarized, somewhat new, but not obvious for noobs. Kind of a mess, is my first impression, but I never sat down and tried to use it; should I?

Like I said, I like GUIs, so why bother with something that's routing around GUIs?

I would also mention; wading through HTML templates in a text editor, is not my idea of "user friendly".

(So for example, my mom should be able to use it, right?)

I can do editing in HTML but I can't explain it to:

a) My friends

b) My mom and dad

c) My family members (or just about most people I know and love)

If you happen to think you know a better way than using pure HTML, or the Steemit editors, I would enjoy hearing about it!

And thanks in advance ;-)

Well, sir you can use hackmd.io . Its a pretty cool website or should I say, an editor which allow you to create text with ease. You can create article there and then transfer that whole article wherever you want by copy and pasting. I personally use it for my steemit articles. You can either provide the link of your article on hackmd to anyone and he can even make corrections in it only by visiting the article web URL.
Visit it once . You'll love it.

Hi @cryptonet, just stumbled on your comment and just wanted to say thanks for sharing this web tool / editor with the community. I've been looking at markdown editors for the past week, and the interface looks nice and clean from initial play. Cheers!

Please fill out your profile text and let us know more about you..
I really like your steem name! Please let us know where it comes from; mythology, or your imagination, etc.

Hi @surfyogi, nice to meet you. My username doesn't have one overarching significance... I suppose, it's a bit of a mash of tunes and imagination.

Thanks, exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. I could search these out on my own, but having something recommended just seems better this time around.

You're welcome sir. It's good to help someone out especially if you know about things which are being asked :)

Interesting; so this is a GUI for a markdown editor... I did not expect that; it's very limited; it can't even center text.. but interesting, and so many capabilities.
Thanks for pointing this out to everyone.

Nice! Just this morning I was looking for a solution, because I'm spending way to much time (2-4 hours per post!) with Markdown. I'm a long-time web designer, so Markdown is a pretty simple language for me, but I imagine it's exhausting to other Steemians. You know what I really want: A place where I can draft Steemit posts and save them until they're ready for publishing. Happy to know about hackmd.io.

I'm like your mom and dad I need help!!!! Enjoyed your steem I'm going to read it again and really learn something I need thanks!

I use Markdown Pad: http://markdownpad.com/
It is pretty good and I keep my template with my signature and start normally from this point. Try it out.

Very nice pointer!
Thanks, will try it.

That is a good topic man! Thank you! Because of your post I found out about hackmd.io. thanks to @cryptonet also :D

You and I and cryptonet should get together and work on some projects together.
Maybe a vlog?
Think about it, brainstorm and we can chat and skype sometime.

Let me also join your team.

I would love too man! I would love to start vlogging but my english is so bad..also my accent...

I was using Wordpress to blog when I first started on steemit. For the most part, you can make your whole blog post on Wordpress and just copy and paste the html over to steemit. Maybe you would have to add a few little tweeks to get things looking right here and there but not too much. You can even store a few Gig's of images there so it's an image host as well.

This was before I got used to markdown. I just use the steemit editor now that I'm more comfortable typing out all the formating for steemit. It's quick once you get used to it but it does take a while to learn all the commands you can use off by heart. The steemit editor could be so much better though. I wish you could have some shortcuts for adding links and formatting while still be able to use the markdown code.

So Wordpress is a huge install; it's designed to run on a server, and you run it locally, and use it for your own database and notes UI?
Very cool; any shortcuts I should look for?

I'm also looking some editor framework, which I can use for my later developments. I want to create a post automation framework. At weekend I have more time to author articles, but I don't want to do posts 20 at weekend, and nothing at weekdays. It is much better if I author the articles at weekend and my app will post them in a scheduled time. If you find something useful I will be also interested!

I can relate. I can't explain how to do editing in HTML to my parents or friends! Resteemed.

![GUI design cropped.png] is really annoying when making posts. Each time I make a post and add an image I have to fumble through getting rid of this prefix. I wonder how much time I have wasted if you add it all together haha

I wish you we had a better editor than me just having to use HTML tags or asterisks but it has been a great learning experience to remind me how to use HTML since I haven't used it for years.

I sometimes use html.am/html-editors/html-text-editor.cfm and copy over the source could to steemit but I hope they release a text editor here @surfyogi

`Thanks surfyogi. I thought I was the only one who found this computer stuff stuffy. It's not that I don't want to learn new helpful things. It just starts to get way more involved than I figured.

I was also searching for these. I wanted to add some images in the same row and sometimes just after the word like a thumbnail and continue the lines. Some of the replies here gave us a good solutions, thanks to all the users for it.

I agree with every point you've made @surfyogi and I hope it all becomes user friendly in the near future. I often feel like a programmer whenever I'm typing a post on here, albeit a rather basic one at that, but Mums & Dads may find it all a bit too bothersome. That part needs to be ironed out before they hit the mainstream button. Great post dude.

Great topic man!

Thank you for posting this! I've had the same questions/concerns.

Thanks! I was looking for a good tutorial, but I could not find it! I wanted to embed an iframe with an application, but it is not working. I hope there will e some development for the posting style, and opportunities!

Nice question @surfyogi sir, i hope some of the old steemians could answer it in much better way.
