Natural weed killer experiment 1

in #steemit7 years ago

I bet, like me, a lot of Steemians have pets. A lot of you will have gardens and a great many of those gardens will grow weed plants far better than those we carefully choose for our displays.

If, like me, you try to avoid weedkilling chemicals for the safety of aforementioned pets then this may interest you.

I use distilled white vinegar for so many things from spraying on pet beds to deodourise to descaling my kettle.
I read somewhere that a white vinegar mix is also a good weed killer providing weeds are not near plants you want to keep.
So, I descaled my kettle today and used the solution to then pour onto some weeds to see what happens. The water/vinegar solution was just off the boil so that probably contributes to the death of said invading plant.

So here's the short term result.

If I remember I'll take another picture next Saturday to see the result.

As you can see the soft leaved cress like plant (no idea what it's called) succumbed quite quickly as did the dandelion leaves that got caught. The grass however has had less of a reaction. I'll see what happens. If it works then it's one less production chemicalised thing I buy.

Thanks for reading
