Once two scholars of the Tabiin (or perhaps Tabiit-tabiin), Ibn Thawus and Malik ibn Anas were summoned to confront the Caliph Abu Ja'far Al-Mansur. The second caliph of the Daulah Bani Abbasiah was famous for his cruelty in upholding his power, but at that time the sciences of Islam also began to grow rapidly, be it Fikih, Hadith, Tafsir, and others. Actually the two scholars were not happy with the call, but given his cruelty, they both came to him as well.
They enter the assembly of al Mansur, and are seated at the place provided. It turned out that at that time the Caliph was preparing to execute (punish death) someone, the executioner with a sharply honed sword ready to receive orders. Al Mansour looked for a moment, then turned and said to Ibn Thawus, "Tell me something about your father !!" Without fear and shame, Ibn Thawus said, "I heard my father say that the Messenger of Allah said: the most harsh punishment on the Day of Resurrection is the one who associates Allah in His law, and then implies injustice in His justice !! "Of course Ibn Thawus knew very well what he said, and the risk of being said in the presence of a very famous ruler of his cruelty . But as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, that the greatest jihad is the right sentence (haq), delivered before an unjust ruler. Malik ibn Anas (ie, Imam Malik, who composed Maliki madhhab and the first hadith book al-Muwaththa) was also worried by his saying that Al Manshur ordered his executioners to kill Ibn Thawus. So he covered himself with his cloak so as not to sprinkle Ibn Thawus's blood. But a few moments passed, Al Manshur just quietly chided, then said again, "O Ibn Thawus, give me advice!" "Well," said Ibn Thawus again, "Did not you hear the Word of Allah SWT: Do you not notice how your Lord do to Ad people? The inhabitants of Iram possessed the tall buildings that had never been built (such a city) in other lands, and the Thamud who cut the great stones in the valley, and the Pharaohs who had the stakes (the many armies ), who do arbitrary in his country, then they do much damage in that country, therefore your Lord inflict on them a whiplash (ie sorrowful punishment), your Lord is really watching! "Imam Malik's worries are increasing only. If Ibn Thawus 'threatened' the caliph with the hadith of the Prophet (s), now increases his 'threat' with the Word of God mentioned in QS Al Fajr verses 6-14. Again Imam Malik cupped his cloak in case something happened to Ibn Thawus, that was killed, and his blood would splash on him. But as before, the Caliph al-Mansur only paused at the words of Ibn Thawus, who clearly criticized, even denouncing the 'iron-hand policy' he had done. He seemed to be drowning in his own mind, then said, "Thawus give me my pen (pen)!" Perhaps Al Manshur would record his words or advice, but again Ibnu Thawus refused to give it. So the caliph said, "What prevented you from giving me that ink?" Although the value or price of the ink is not so much, it may not even be of value to Al Manshur, but Ibn Thawus has his own reasons. He said, "I'm afraid you write commands of disobedience, so I fellowship with you in disobedience !!" Al Manshur seemed annoyed with the words of Ibn Thawus, but for some reason he could not or did not dare to be cruel to him. He said, "Get away from me !!" So Ibn Thawus said, "That's what we expected!"
