When I was younger I didn't know much about business. I didn't know much about anything really. In highschool I remember standing outside on Tuesday mornings on the corner, smoking cigarettes and talking with my buddies about what happened the night before on WWF Raw... At the time, CD's were still fairly new and CD burning technology was state-of-the-art. Apple was going through hard times, microsoft owned the PC world with windows 3.1 and its massive Windows 95 upgrade and names like Amazon and Ebay still hadn't gained any traction. I learned about Google in high school and it was steadily gaining traction while competing with names like AOL and Netscape Navigator.
What does a high school kid from an inter-city school know about the future? Not much or right now I'd be a millionaire. These days I'm a history teacher and every time I research a new time period I kick myself and wonder why I wasn't more interested in the past when I was younger, I simply didn't see the value in it.
In college I studied business and I read a book called 'Rich dad, Poor dad.' We often make excuses for our ignorance and I remember saying to myself, well, the reason you haven't made it yet is cause you never had a rich dad. Its too easy to make excuses, its much harder to take responsibility for your actions and act on your gut instincts. I remember in high school telling my parents to buy Amazon stock. They shrugged it off thinking, what does a high school kid know about stocks? Later I pushed them to buy some Ebay. If I used it and everybody I knew used it, wouldn't it be worth buying?
If you've made it this far, stay with me a bit longer... I'm talking about missed opportunities here and regrets, I couldn't be alone in having them could I? After graduating college I remember going to my buddy's house and seeing something amazing... It was called an Ipod touch and I had never seen anything like it! At the time Apple had been making a comeback first with their G4 line of computers and quickly followed by the Ipod classic. But this! This Ipod touch was like nothing I had ever seen! It was touchscreen and had games and it simply blew all other handheld devices out of the water as far as I was concerned.
I knew it was the future, I knew it would become a phone like no other phone ever seen before but I couldnt put two and two together and say, hey, I can ride the wave, I'm going to give all my money to Apple and load the boat on Apple stock!
See, knowing the future isn't enough... If you know the river is changing course, you have to figure out where its going and put yourself in the way of it, you have to act and you have to be ready to ride the wave!
Enter Bitcoin... I heard about this thing in about 2010 and even made an effort to get my hands on some. When I figured out that it was extremely difficult to buy and that it couldnt simply be stored on your computer but you actually needed some ungodly long code that gave you access to it, my mind shut down for some reason, I told myself it was too difficult and that it would never work. If I had a better understanding of history and truly understood what it was, I would have bought as much of it as I possibly could have. Another missed opportunity.
Fast forward to 2016... A friend of mine and I were talking about cryptocurrencies and wanted to learn more apparently my friend had another buddy who was approaching millionaire status simply from investing a large sum of fiat in 2013 into Bitcoin when it was about 500$ per coin. After talking with him I and seeing how confident he was and how much money he had made I decided to put my money and brains to the test. I purchased some Bitcoin and exchanged it for ETH, the hottest cryptocurrency of the time. I began learning about blockchain technology and the differences between BTC, ETH and other cryptocurrencies like BTS and STEEM.
I realized that BTC was too slow, it was too expensive to buy and it was too expensive to trade because of huge miner fees. ETH was only remotely better.. It seemed to suffer from the same problems as BTC but was simply speedier, easier to transact and was more flexible in the sense that other tokens could be created and piggyback on its blockchain.
When I learned about Steemit and Steem I was amazed. A social network, powered by blockchain which operated at 100,000TPS and offered writers and content creators the ability to get paid for simply posting their work I was shocked. I was amazed. I didn't believe it and I felt there was some sort of catch. It took a while for me to understand the system but I realized that what you see is pretty much what you get. The Steem blockchain serves as a way to transact, a cryptocurrency (Steem) and a way to permanantly store written and pictorial information on a blockchain. It has so many properties in addition to those of Bitcoin or Ethereum. It has so much raw potential. Steem is a game-changer and the largest platform Steemit which sits on top of it is absolutely fantastic considering its still in BETA.
Steem and Steemit are the future, I can see it, I am a part of it and if you are reading this, you are too. Enough said, welcome to the future, happy you've made it this far! The time is now... Don't sit on the sidelines... Act!
Thanks for reading! Thoughts and comments are appreciated.
Nice post. Looking forward to seeing Steem develop!
Great I will be following you
Thanks bodystar! Lets keep networking... Btw what do you think of the new Steemit GUI?
I am following you
hi vote please https://steemit.com/steemit/@kostiayatsuk/hello-my-follower-s-on-channel-youtube-streem-transaction-new-on-steemit
Great
You are right....steemit is the future for us..for the people who wants to share something good to the world wide. Honestly, you are better than I am in recognizing cryptocurrency. I know it only from steemit post shared by steemians like you. I was so dummy about it though now i am not so smart on it..
I started being active ini steemit since July 2017 and now i am aware that we can earn here and share many thing to the world. Besides, this steemit is absolutely different from Facebook where in Facebook we get nothing and onlu make Mark Zuckerberg richer and richer day by day yet steemit makes us possible to earn and get profit by sharing. Thanks Steemit for this great opportunity.
I remember that book rich dad poor dad what an epic book and time period to compare too!
I'm down around 75% vs btc since I bought in June hopefully things turn around eventually
Be patient Yonny! I'm quite sure we are just weeks if not days away from an epic altcoin rise. Steem has got huge potential so hold on to it. I look at current prices like a one-time only sale. I've loaded my bags and am ready for the bulls!
That seems very logical. Everyone dumped their alt coins to buy bitcoin and now when x2 is out of the way people will rebuy altcoins.
I definitely share the regret with you.. Not so much that there were so many missed opportunity's but the fact I wasn't even try to look for them for majority of my life. At least I know better now, which I think matters most.
Great article!
Taking responsibility is what most people are not doing enough...they always give their guilt/problems/failures away
Very nice write-up. I am excited to see the mention of "rich dad poor dad". That book has changed my life. I was late to know about Bitcoin and cryptos. But steemit has helped me a lot in gaining momentum.
I like your post, it some how resonate with me. Thanks @techblogger
Holy smokes, one of the best articles I have read on steemit, hands down!
I have been into technology for most of my life and remember Windows 3.1 but that was in elementary school. Due to my age I have never invested into any technology that I found interesting until Bitcoin.
I spent three months doing nothing but learning about Bitcoin before even buying a fraction. I am no Bitcoin millionaire but am happy I learned about the technology before it goes mainstream.
In June of this year I came across Steem and the SteemIt platform. I have been blogging for over a decade and have seen more engagement here than any other platform. Yes there is a lot of half effort content here but that is normal.
As long as Steem keeps adding new users at a healthy rate and those of us who put in real effort keep building relationships, Steem will be a nice side income. That being said, blogging for the money is never a good idea.
Great post, looking forward to more!
J. R.
Agreed. Thanks for the thoughtful comment and words of wisdom. I followed the same path researching bitcoin before actually purchasing it. I agree about the blogging for money. I write about technology because I have a sincere interest in it. I find it amazing how many advances are being made everyday and make it my job to share what I learn with the world.
Wow, I could totally relate to this post! I, too, have had to shoulder the burden of having this uncanny ability to see/predict trends and hot ideas that will blow up someday. I, too, have had to suffer the consequences of knowing something will blow up but not having the capital and the real conviction to invest when it's the right time.
I, too, have a bitcoin sob story of how I could have been a millionaire today if I had just stuck to my guns back in 2011 and held on to my $100 in bitcoin. I've always said that I don't regret anything and wouldn't change anything about my past, but in all honesty, my biggest regret in life is not sticking to my word and spending my bitcoins back in the day.
Hence why my ears perked up once again when I found out about Steemit and Steem. The way I felt about Bitcoin when I first discovered it, the feeling, the knowledge that I had about the certainty of it blowing up someday...that's how I feel about Steem and Steemit today.
It's the same exact feeling, that knowing that something will take off and the passion that comes with wanting to share this thing with everyone you know before it actually does blow up. I made a mistake with my bitcoin venture back in the day, but I'm not making that same mistake here with Steem and Steemit. I've even begun to invest my fiat currency into Steem. That's how much I believe in this platform.
It's so good to see that I'm not alone in this, and that someone else in this world is just as certain as I am of the future of Steem! Thank you so much for writing this post :)
It will! Here's that BTC opportunity to play all over again. I'll follow your footsteps and keep loading Steem every month. The more that is built on top of the blockchain, the more value it will have!
Yes, I agree! It's like the Universe decided to give me a second chance to get into a market before it blows up...and you know I'm not going to miss out on that opportunity again this time around! Perhaps it only happened now because I'm finally in a better mindset to become financially stable and I'll know how to properly use my money when I finally start making some. :P
Great story. I can totally relate.
Back in the early 90s when I came across the internet, very few people in my part of the world knew anything about it but I could see it was going to be huge and change the world. I started up an Internet Cafe with a local dial-up service and did ok for a few years...but I pretty much got wiped out by the big boys after the dotcom bubble burst.
I draw comparisons to the SDLC where you can have the Research and Analysis right, but if your strategy (Design) is flawed and your execution (Build) is poor then you can be on the right track but still crash and burn. My biggest error was I didn't understand the macro and that is an error I am determined not to repeat for Blockchain. I think Blockchain could be even more disruptive than the Internet was and I have high hopes for STEEM, but I do see some Design and Build issues. I hope they can be overcome.
I understand your point. I hope the issues you are referring to can be resolved as well. We both can agree that blockchain is here to stay. I'm quite sure we are all much better off simply understanding how disruptive this industry is. Steem has a first mover advantage which is huge. Thanks for your thoughts.
Your story is inspiring. It reflects the sentiment that so many of us steemians felt when we first discovered it. It was so wow!. We have an emotional attachment to it's success. It's about freedom, community and open dialogue. You have a lot of company in your good will. Peace and safe travels.
Oh yah! Things are going to get better from here. I have faith in Sneak, Ned, all of these guys! They are some of the best presenters I've ever seen in my life on par with Steve Jobs in terms of presenting a clear vision. Steem is great, what else can I say!
Great job

@techblogger your story is identical to mine. So Many things changed so fast! I never thought it would happen.
Haha. But at least we get wiser with age (this is my hope anyways...). We are here now, and thats really all that matters. Take care!
Let's hope you are right this time as well! :)
After watching the presenters at SteemFest2 and what they had to say and adding it to what my gut is telling me... I think we are in store for an epic ride! Lets do our part in making that happen!
Excited to catch the wave early in the game!
Always quality posts
nice bro friends,I hoop you upvote and following me,thank you,
Nice post, thank you for sharing, you are not alone, most of us have missed out on much. Happy Saturday.

I am very excited about the future of steemit
nice post @techblogger, I like how you define steemit, nice to be part of this community. Thanks for sharing your story
sir you don very good job awasome posts in steemit i upvote you pls kind to me pleees upvote follow me.
Thanks for the great post.
There's definitely something unique and equitable about the steem blockchain. I'm new to cryptocurrencies and blockchains, so perhaps I'm not in the best position to pick winners in this department. But I can't help thinking they are onto a big winner here. My only regret is that I'm dead broke and can't afford to buy into it at the moment. Going to have to do it the hard way via consistent content output..
Just keep posting and making friends Revo! I started on Steemit just a few months ago and the people I have met through the community have been absolutely amazing. They are some of the most supportive, friendliest, intelligent people I've ever met in my life. Keep networking and stay in a mindset to help others, I swear good karma really gets magnified in a community like this! Discord is a great place to make friends on steemit (because it adds the chat element)... I recommend MinnowBooster, PAL, SteemSpeak and MinnowPower discord rooms. Let me know if you need help finding links.
Cheers mate!
Changes are always for good. @techblogger, Rightly said, human tend to give many though process before accepting any change and sometime before accepting the changes they remain far behind in the race.
Steem and Steemit are the demand for now and definitely will be the future. It is far better than other social networking site. Many a times I found the information very useful on many posts.
We should always accept the change at first, as "too much thinking is just waste of time"....also need is the mother of all innovation which ultimately leads to revolution in any field.
This is so very true. We all see opportunities, the success take advantage of them.
I, too, learned about BTC early, maybe 2011 or so. And like you, concluded that it was too hard and "I would get to it later". I cannot recall what the price was at that time but I remember telling myself I will put $500 into it. Talk about kicking myself in the fanny now.
Well, I am trying to atone for that buy studying, writing about, and putting my fiat into the crypto world. This is where I believe the future of huge returns resides. There will be millions of millionaires made off this one asset class...more than any other in the world. We will also see many more billionaires created.
Thank you for the plug for steem. There is a lot going for this platform that people fail to realize. It is important to weather the ups and downs that come with the markets. Prices fluctuate but the progress of the steem blockchain does not. There is a ton of development taking place. People just need to be a bit patient with it.
nice
Only 9 days in and I am pretty excited about the future of steemit and steem!
Plenty of exploration to do here buddy! Awesome MTB posts! Followed ya!
My story pretty much matches yours, I was too busy with useful things at college that I missed lots of opportunities back then, but blockchain is different and pretty exciting! Thanks for sharing 😁
jshfsg
I had bought about 150 bitcoins back in 2011 I think. Extremely regret selling them now! I feel your pain!
Nice and informative.. @techblogger
No smoking Campaign 🚭
Echo's of a childhood, happy, but many opportunities lost, also glad I became involved in 2015 after doing so much research.
Thanks for making my day realizing some of us take a bit of a shove to move us down the tracks @techblogger
Thanks bodystar!
Nice information
I was there to. I'm talking about the Bitcoin beginning. Who would have thought it will reach the sky? I remember I took those 5 Bitcoins from the giveaway that they run on the early days of Bitcoin. Took them and forgot about it, pure example of wasted opportunity. Now we're here on steemit. Hope we won't waste this one out.
I've been on this online earning thing since 2010, Still not that much progress lol..
Now I have very much faith on steemit, lets see what will happen in future..
Awasome info
Great I will be following you
Yes we are one community. I find it very interesting
good post
