When I first started with SteemIt, I thought my posts were the most important thing that would influence my account. Of course, it's still fair to say that SteemIt relies upon articles as one foundation of the entire platform. However, I've found that it's easier for me as a small fish to add value to posts by encouraging comments on my own articles AND making relevant comments in other interesting articles.
Here's how you have a discussion:
Earning Steem by Adding Value to Other Author's Posts With Comments
Personally, I've earned more Steem in the comment section of other people's posts, and I don't do it by spamming. You can just write something that requires NO thought.
If you're comment resembles these, just DO NOT POST IT:
- Nice article
- Plz follow me and upvote
- Here's an irrelevant (spam) link!
Instead, you actually have to read the article and post your opinion. Your opinion does not have to agree with the original author, but you shouldn't be a jerk either. You know how to have a discussion at the family dinner table or at work, so apply the same manners here on Steemit.
Even if the author disagrees with you, he or she will appreciate your respectful tone and the fact you took the time to read and reply with some sensible comment. That means he or she will also be likely to reply and possibly upvote you. In the end, both you and the author win that way. Of course, you can add that you appreciated the article, but that should not be the ONLY THING that you write.
Try to Generate Comments in Your Own Posts
In my posts, I always ask for feedback. I usually get it. Go ahead and pose a question or simply ask for comments at the end of your post. It's like asking for the sale. If you don't ask, you should not expect anything.
Why Are Comments Important for New Steemers?
In my case, I've earned more Steemit by posting thoughtful comments than I've earned on my own posts. I'm still new, so I don't have a lot of visibility. However, I can find very visible posts to contribute to. This activity has also helped me grow my follows AND slowly gain more visibility.
*What Do You Think?????
How have you used comments to add more value to your Steemit account, your own posts, and to other author's posts. I'm here to upvote you for value.
When you look for posts to comment on, do you just look for popular posts?
That's a good question. You know, more popular posts are more visible. But I am only going to read and have much to say about posts that are interesting to me. However, I've certainly commented upon many posts for people I follow that hadn't generated a lot of visibility. So I don't prioritize popular posts, but I probably end up commenting upon many that have gained visibility.
Yeah, I understand how that could happen. Thanks for the tip. I think it's great that the network rewards us for paying attention to other authors too. Now, I just need to gain some traction.
Some earn more through comments, as is your case and others through post. But the important thing is that both the comments and the posts are of quality. In addition, through the comments, we also make ourselves known. People can be interested in our profile and thus win a new follower.
Thanks, I agree with you. I think I just focused on posts at firsts. I just wanted to emphasize that it's important for new Steemers to also pay attention to comments.
To me, it's funny that this even needs mentioning! But you are absolutely right, at least in the long term.
A lot of greedy zombies out there...
Yeah, it is sad. There are lots of commenters who just copy/paste the same comments on every post. They'll be like "Good Post. Please upvote me." It's annoying and detracts from the platform.
Very informative post. I had no idea that comments were such a game changer. Thanks for the info.
I just think commenting on other people's posts helps new people to gain visibility. Thanks for dropping by.
