Well that’s a surprise Facebook

in #steemit7 years ago

The other day I wrote a post about how I put up two identical posts, one here and one on Facebook.

On Steemit I got 12 upvotes and a comment, on Facebook, nothing.

I said that this was symptomatic of the amount of engagement between the two platforms, and how I preferred Steemit because at least someone usually reads what I write and gives it a vote.

I talked to some people about it and they suggested I might have been shadow banned because I post content from Steemit on my feed.

So yesterday I put up another short post on Facebook as a test, basically asking a short question.

Here is what I posted:

Ok, I have a question. This has been bugging me ever since I joined this group. For all of you who finish "the big race" how the hell do you pose for selfies and photos afterwards and SMILE!?
I am dead on my feet after 60kms. I CAN'T smile. I can barely breathe. All i want at that stage is a beer and a nice comfy coffin.
How do you do it?
Or......... (just thought of this)...... do you take the selfies BEFORE the race?

Well that kicked stuff off!

Twenty four hours later the thread is still active and I’m still replying to people who are posting. There is over 72 comments. That’s more comments that i have ever got on Facebook since i joined!

And I even got a nice comment from Camile Heron! She is the woman who has just broken the 12 hour world track record. So a real celebrity in running circles. (and totally awesome).

So I guess I’m not shadow banned after all. But I still prefer Steemit ;-)

I’m looking forward to having communities here so we can get this sort of community engagement going on here too.

Are you new to Steemit and trying to figure out what it's all about?

Head over to: https://www.steemithelp.net/. It's the best place to get a handle on what the platform is all about.

Sort:

How much did suckerberg pay you :)

I wish! hehehe

It's one of those weird things. It happens here as well. You write something that you think will generate some interest and it sinks like a stone.

Then you write something flippant, off-the-cuff and it goes crazy.

Hmm... I need to be more flippant more often i think ;-)

Go for it - I think on Steemit most posts are too long and serious, and hardly anyone has time to read them anyway.

Right now cryptos are going up so fast I've given up worrying about post payouts - Litecoin yesterday was several times my 18 month Steemit career!

(make that $350)

I got rid of fb, I posted political stuff and got threats to my family, my work, my friends and close relatives.
I only got 1 or 2 likes on a post and maybe a comment.
FB made me miserable from all the negative posts on the time line, all the ignorance.
screw fb, love steem

That's a bit extreme - threats and stuff.
I post on Facebook because they have a trail and ultra running group which is interesting.
Once we get the same here, I probably won't go back to facebook ;-)

But I do think it's not a case of either / or. You can use both.

We need to get all the Facebook runners over to steemit. Then we will see even better discussions here

I agree. There are 80 thousand runners in this group and it is pretty active. So they would be a good group to have here.
