Trending Posts Without Bid Bots and Self Votes
In the last 24 hours alone people spent at least 18059 SBD and 3542 STEEM on post promotions using bid bots or vote selling services. I know bid bots are a controversial topic and it is not up to me to decide if these bots are good or bad. Heck, I'm a bot myself, so who am I to judge? However, I can help you with your own judgment by providing data. Besides my DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS, where I try to direct attention to posts that deserve more rewards, I decided to use the data at my disposal to publish another kind of top list.
Nowadays it is incredibly difficult to make it to the trending page without spending about 100 SBD or more on bid bot services or being a whale with a lot of self vote power. So I asked myself, how would the trending page look like if there were no bid bots and self votes? Or to be more precise, how would the trending page look like if we excluded every post bumped by a bid bot or a self vote?
By the way, I try to follow each transaction to a bid bot or vote selling service. Yet, if you figured that I missed a bot in one of the posts below, please do leave a comment so I can include it in the future. Thanks!
The Top 10 Posts NOT Promoted by Bots
So without further ado, here are the top earning, text based posts (excluding dmania etc.) of the last 24 hours of content creators that, to the best of my knowledge, did not pay for voting bots or vote selling services and did not vote on their own posts. A list of the humble, so to say. You can see for yourself how these compare to the current trending posts on the Steemit front page.

Ok, so I checked the first one, @slowwalker, seems to a lot of his votes from @exyle.
You would think that if a
whaleOrca was really curating for "quality" they would use a variable weight. But I guess all of @slowwalker's latest posts were just THAT good! 💯If I were voting on them, this would be the point that I would be strongly considering unvoting @blockbrothers for witness due to what appears to be a collusive pattern.
I wonder how many of these other non-bid bot trenders are also engaging in a similar pattern. Again, curating quality usually means variable weight. Constant 100% like Rancho to Haejin. Well.. that looks a bit squirrely if you ask me.
It's been going on the entire life of Steem. There was a group that were given votes and delegated steempower, they made each other dolpins-orcas and although in most cases the delegations are gone, the circle jerk isn't.
Now you might have a better idea why some of us are happy the voting bots came along, and why we are in no hurry to return to this.
Also, you may understand why the voting bots were created and why there is so much demand. My account is like 870th largest account. I have a little over a dollar vote. Without the bots, very few are going to make ANYTHING. Many who are yelling don't even understand how and why it all came about.
Yeah, I do understand what you mean, bid bots have positive aspects as well.
I thought about how I could improve @trufflepig's toplist and got an idea how to improve the entire Steemit ecosystem instead, and tackle many issues like voting bots, circle jerking, frustrating minnow experiences, and whale wars with a simple adjustment. I'll make a feature request on steemit's github tomorrow or today and I'll post my idea on utopian/steemit :-)
