Trending Posts Without Bid Bots and Self Votes
In the last 24 hours alone people spent at least 14040 SBD and 2780 STEEM on post promotions using bid bots or vote selling services. I know bid bots are a controversial topic and it is not up to me to decide if these bots are good or bad. Heck, I'm a bot myself, so who am I to judge? However, I can help you with your own judgment by providing data. Besides my DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS, where I try to direct attention to posts that deserve more rewards, I decided to use the data at my disposal to publish another kind of top list.
Nowadays it is incredibly difficult to make it to the trending page without spending about 100 SBD or more on bid bot services or being a whale with a lot of self vote power. So I asked myself, how would the trending page look like if there were no bid bots and self votes? Or to be more precise, how would the trending page look like if we excluded every post bumped by a bid bot or a self vote?
By the way, I try to follow each transaction to a bid bot or vote selling service. Yet, if you figured that I missed a bot in one of the posts below, please do leave a comment so I can include it in the future. Thanks!
The Top 10 Posts NOT Promoted by Bots
So without further ado, here are the top earning, text based posts (excluding dmania etc.) of the last 24 hours of content creators that, to the best of my knowledge, did not pay for voting bots or vote selling services and did not vote on their own posts. A list of the humble, so to say. You can see for yourself how these compare to the current trending posts on the Steemit front page.

#4 sadkitten algorithm update -- by @personz with a current reward of 87 SBD
source In brief, to downvote self voted posts and comments of those accounts with the highest self voting return on investment. That is, the users who use their voting power to direct rewards vastly back to themselves. Theres a much more in depth discussion of the rationale in the first post. In version 2 of the algorithm, launched for a few weeks almost 2 months ago, there was a hidden systematic bug. It turns out that changes in delegations make using SP as a metric variable impossible...
#5 Decentralization and Subjective Expectations -- by @the-alien with a current reward of 59 SBD

There is this idea spreading around lately that decentralization implies that people should be able to commit crimes with total impunity. While its hard to find any correlation between the two things, there are some who seem pretty adamant that one thing cannot exist without the other. Let me give you an example. Lets take the recent outrage in some sectors of the crypto community after some Block Producers of EOS decided to freeze seven accounts for fishing and scamming people. Many ...

His theories parallel many other the...

We finally got some much needed rain and the world around us is lush and vibrant. I had planned on doing this tour using video but .... I made my first ever planned tutorial video recently but we forgot to hit record so I cant share it. My tongue always seems to get thick and woolly when the camera is pointed at me so we spent more time laughing than actually making a video. In order to make an actual video you obviously need to be in record mode otherwise you get a photo like this ......
#9 MacroHard Will Begin To Incite Swag Into Coding, By Looking To Inspire DevelopersCodersWitnesses Through MicroFunding. We Will Start With The Philippines. -- by @macrohard with a current reward of 45 SBD

width1077 height107 While we try to add swag to the world of coding using physical spaces, there is alot we can accomplish digitally before that comes into fullblown fruition. We look to add a reallife paradigm to the world of coding thus, eliminating concepts like developing or developed nations from the world of coding. This we will accomplish! The plan was to adjust matters from the nooks and crannies of nations that the world called developing, by establishing physical hubs that will...

can you also find a way to exclude minnowbooster and smartsteem vote selling upvoted post?
In fact, he tries to exclude all posts promoted by smartsteem and minnowbooster by scanning all transactions that are directed to these services and have a post link in the memo. But since the full Steem nodes he uses for these queries are not 100% reliable, @trufflepig may occasionally miss some promotions.
yes i can see that for an account when a direct promote it's done, how about the vote selling that minnobooster and smartsteem does with the 85% payout, just likes like a bunch of people upvoting instead of the MB or SS account, let me know if this makes sense
appreciate your feedback
He should identify if other accounts are paid by MB or SS to upvote a post. He tracks all incoming transaction to these vote selling services. So if someone sends - let's say - 1 SBD and the post link as a memo to MB, @trufflepig will track this purchase of votes and discount the reward accordingly.
Maybe I didn't really get what you mean, but does this answer your question?
Someone can sell an upvote to smartsteem or minnowbooster and keep their SBD credits in SS or MB wallet, then use that credit to upvote with no transfer hence no memo trail
Ouch, yeah this is almost impossible to detect :-(
if you can find an effective way to catch a pattern, let me know, i would like to support your initiative, get traffic here and what else we can do to promote this organically
