When I first got here I was frustrated with how difficult it was to find information. Either the post was 11 months old and I couldn't be sure it wasn't outdated or I just couldn't find the info at all. I even joined the minnow support group and was asking questions in chat and nobody had any answers, so I know I'm not the only one as people who have been here longer than me and are in a position of assisting others didn't even know. So what did I do?
If you go to the witness list https://steemit.com/~witnesses you'll see a list of witnesses. Not only is it these guys' jobs to keep the whole system running, but they rely upon votes from regular users to keep their jobs so it's in their best interest to make informative posts about how things work! If you go to that list and check out some of their accounts, you can find detailed posts straight from the source.
Also, if you consider that these are the people making decisions about how steem is paid out, etc. then you might take the opportunity to delegate some of your 30 votes to the witnesses you feel like are contributing the most and are most dedicated to the community. If you find someone good, click the little arrow next to their name to vote for them as a witness!
Hope this helps!
I had a look at the link and you're absolutely right...it is a shortcut to the deep and heavy geekdom that makes all of this work and continue to grow forward. I'm sure I can glean some understanding if I spend enough time lurking in the comment section of a lot of those posts.
I might even be able to put a few strands of comprehension together and come up with a valid question or two to ask. Understanding the answer...well let's just get to the bridge before I attempt crossing that divide. ~smiles~
Thanks so much for sharing you frustration upon arrival to Steemit...and your solution. It will help some I'm sure. Have you written a post about this experience and others about your experiences finding you balance here? I'm sure others would be interested as well.
