A rally was held today in Sylhet on the occasion of Tea Workers' Day. Rally was brought out from Amberkhana in the city under the initiative of Bangladesh Tea Workers Federation Sylhet District Branch. The rally is in front of the central Shaheed Minar Sylhet and meets in the summit. Demand for Tea workers' daily wages is Tk 300.
Chaired by organizer Ratna Vaishnav of the Tea Workers Federation and under the chairmanship of student leader Sanjay Sharma, the rally was addressed by Jatiya Party leader Zubair Ahmed Chowdhury Sumon, , Tea worker leader Suranjit Modi, among others.
The speakers said, 'Tea workers are deprived of their fair rights. At present, the price of rice is 45 paisa, and then the tea workers' wage is only 85 rupees. The speakers immediately demanded Tk 300 for wages of tea workers and construction of government primary schools in tea gardens.
Prior to the morning tea workers federation organized wreaths at the Shaheed Minar of Tarapur Tea Garden in Sylhet.
