As a creator of my own social network, I have put a lot of time into attracting users away from Facebook and elsewhere to come and explore my own creation. I understand quite well that there are lots of reasons why people don't want to leave their pushy, somewhat abusive corporate 'caretakers' (overlords) in the social networking arena - yet despite Steemit actually PAYING them to leave and come to a new community, many still resist!
Many people, it seems, just won't accept that a social network will reward them just for making posts - but it is also true I feel that many don't want to be put into what they perceive as a competitive environment and would prefer to just huddle together with friends in a private way. There's nothing wrong with that, but I do happen to know that there are lots of people on the web who jump at all kinds of chances to make money and yet who still reject Steemit for their own reasons that aren't exactly clear to me, except that I feel some fear is involved.
I'm really just making this post to let my Facebook contacts know that right now, not only can you make significant money on Steemit just for blogging and commenting, but if you make original, quality material/content you can actually get rewarded more highly than you are likely to be paid in your day job - even in a quite well paid day job!
Steem backed dollars, one of the two cryptocurrencies used at Steemit.com is currently valued at 11 times it's intended value! SBDs are intended to be pegged at $1USD, but currently are over $11USD, which means that posts on Steemit that were once worth $1USD are now worth over $11USD and when you factor in that quality posts can receive payouts of hundreds of STEEM dollars - that means that currently you could get paid $1000USD for a single popular post on Steemit - or more!
Compare that to Facebook or just about any other platform - where you get absolutely nothing and just continue to make a bunch of Billionaires even richer!! Is that really the kind of reality you want to be creating?
Steemit runs on a blockchain which means it is transparent, cannot be censored/controlled and is essentially autonomous up to a point, without a central hierarchy controlling it. Steemit also has a Youtube clone called DTube that is a similarly distributed and uncensored video platform and Dsound which is the same but for audio.
If all this isn't enough, Steem, the main currency in use on Steemit, currently supports the highest amount of transactions of any cryptocurrency, transacts in 3 seconds (vs 10+ minutes for Bitcoin) and has ZERO transfer fees!
What?
So Steem is simultaneously the technically most proficient cryptocurrency, supports the most uncensored social network and video/audio hosting platform AND pays you more than your day job probably does just for doing exactly what YOU want to do and for providing value to the community...
And you aren't here... because?
;)
Wishing you well,

I finally joined! Haven't even made my introduction post yet, and this is actually my first comment.. And I already feel that this is where I need to be! I've lost interest for my Facebook and Instagram accounts for too long now and I want to start over. With something that actually feels like a great improvement to our culture, and the beginning of a future that will be a whole new era. I'm so glad to be here and exited to get started!!
First comment, nice! Enjoy a 100% vote from me as a welcome gift. It's not much, but it's better than a like on facebook.
Thank you so much! I have alot to learn about all this, but now I have at least introduced myself! 😉 Yay!
Excellent! Welcome! I think you are in the right space. :)
Thank you! Feeling welcome and liking the vibe here, fantastic!
Welcome!
Thanks! 😃
I have been wanting to write a post on this exact topic and have a lot of ideas kicking around in my head, and came to mostly the same conclusions as well, you beat me to it.
I think the Steemit interface needs to change to make it easier to see what people are doing, sure you follow people and have a feed but it gets a little difficult after a while as more and more posts flood in.
Making the Billionaires even richer as they funnel the profits off into tax havens really gets to me, why people would want to do it I just don't know?(well I do they are hypnotised by mass media and have to know what their "friends" are doing)
I have told everyone I know about Steemit and just this week have managed to get a friend signed up, only by using the Steem Dollar example to get him interested.
I'd like to see notifications work properly, so when someone clicks on up vote it tells you, I think this would make things a little more interactive.
Another idea I had (its out there and know no one would like it) is basically close Steemit for a month, make it exclusive, make it hard to get. Generate as much FOMO as possible. Then all the personality types that think they are missing out would rush to get on after it is opened back up again.
If the interface made it more social somehow, (I really don't know how I don't use fbook or twitter and hate them with a passion) a way to get more involved with what friends are doing?
Actually that image with the status updates, friends and the CIA (spot on by the way) maybe steemit should build some kind of functionality like that so you can have a group of friends who can automatically vote with you or follow your vote so you could build communities within steemit.
Great post keep up the good work!
Oh yes, there are many opportunities for improvement here - it seems that Steemit Inc. are focused on improving the infrastructure and less on the user experience currently - I can understand why, but I also think it wouldn't hurt to put a bit more dev time into the UI too.
A big thing I've noticed is the small payouts when you're first starting out seems to discourage people. They want the reward immediately and because they don't make it to the trending page (or anywhere even close) they give up and go back to Facebook because the $1 post they spent 2 hours making isn't worth their time.
The problem with that is they need to think about it more long-term like the SBD example. I try and use BTC as an example, and it usually goes like this:
Steemit is only 1 year old (ish) and is trading for about $2. Bitcoin was worth about $3 when it was about 3 years old and is now $20k after 10 years. If you can get as much steem as you can right now, $1 at a time, using nothing but a little bit of time, how much could that be worth in 10 years?
Steem might not get up as high as bitcoin - or maybe it will - but if you can get 3 thousand steem while it's still cheap a little bit at a time and hold it, you can be a millionaire if it makes it to even $330. And the more you get, the less steem has to increase in value before you can retire.
hehe - yes, that's a possibility. i put years into making long posts on sites that don't even exist now for free - so for me it's a no brainer.
I think where Facebook users get stuck in their ruts and don't come over to steemit, is because you have to basically become a writer/blogger in order to do so. Sure you could just upvote, resteem and follower users all day on steemit. But if you want to make a decent penny on here, you gotta write something appealing. I know from my experience, it was a struggle (still a struggle) to make content that both appeals to others While holding to own interests.
I think the appeal of money alone is not enough. It's still a very different forum from Facebook, that can alienate someone coming from fb quick.
@originalworks
I agree! Blogging here takes a lot more consideration than updating fb status or clicking an emoticon.
I don't see why, tho, people aren't more open to rounding up their usual posse, and doing one photo with a paragraph type posts, and then upvote one another like we do over there anyhow. Could invent cliquish hashtag to sort feeds.....
Yes, I agree that that is a big part of it - I'm just surprised by how many of the 'free thinker' types I kno w who aren't here and also those who always say they hate Facebook who aren't even here and are still on facebook!
It's still possible to use Steemit and not care about the money - maybe things will change once more evolved websites are created that operate on the Steem Blockchain.
I know what you mean. I honestly can't even scroll through fb now. It's all garbage on there. I don't get how my truther friends can still use it for any kind information, it's all social conditioning and privacy invasion.
Like tribe... Ya know...
I've never been tribe.
Tribe has been abandoned to really horror show types. Sad.
Agreed, although I do think that if millions of people flock to Steemit and people are able to largely recreate their friend networks on here mimicking their networks on FB, they they will be upvoting and replying to each others' content fairly often and regularly, even for posts devoid of much meaningful content, kind of how one sentence tweets can get thousands of retweets and likes, for example. Of course, that is a potential risk of the content quality degrading, but that will be entirely up to the democratic nature of people upvoting posts that are meaningful and helpful.
I agree 100%. Above, I suggest people start off with 1 pic and a paragraph to get their feet wet.
My first 3 months here, I was fortunate to be curated a few times and got some whale dolphin sized attention. I made like 170 sbd and cashed it for summer vacation at about 1.50 usd. This week was about my second 3 months here, and I penny and nickeled my way to 50 sbd. Well, that cashed into $700 usd for my bday trip etc! I like to say that "I only gamble on sure things". Well, sbd value is holding firm way above $1 usd--between 6 and 12 in fact!
For 6 months, I am averaging over $100 a month with lackadaisical participation. Any time I actually hang out and socialize, the numbers go up. It works if you work it.
It is a sure thing to gamble putting time and creating some care here!
Steem OM!
Pretty sure I can degrade the content all by myself ;)

I couldn't agree more! I just wrote up my Steem-powered birthday adventure, because participating here is what made it possible. Hehe, then I Steem-spam fb for a while ;) Thanks for this inspiring and encouraging post.
I enjoy Steem spamming fb and twitter!
You are welcome - don't worry about spamming FB, it is mostly held together by spam anyway!
Thanks
Aloha! You are welcome. Followed!
Great post. I think Steemit, as of right now, has the most promise of being a replacement for Facebook. Minds is the most user-friendly IMO, but it doesn't seem to have the incentive like Steemit does, so it's not that much of a puller of people out of the FB arena right now. Since Steemit is still in beta from what I understand, they're still working out how to best optimize the social network for ease of use. A few things to figure out I think are the password issue (if you lose it, you're locked out of your account forever), the content-creation focus, and the number of bots. All in all, I see tremendous opportunity for Steemit and look forward to seeing its rollout continue.
Thanks ..I'm here because of you and I'm finding it great! 👍
You're welcome bro' !
Hello @ura-soul , nicely put all this and makes for a very powerful and positive promotion tool for our community of steem reward for content producers ! I have upvoted and shared to my facebook account with the hope some of my "friends" get the bug and join us here ) steem On !
Aloha! Thanks - yes, it would be great to see some waves being made with prosperity that is present here right now - not every dinosaur will survive!
No absolutely agree with you that Facebook is a dinosaur and should be seen as a threat to the way people interact! Here is an ex employee coming clean on what he sees and knows to be true concerning this abject platform !

I don't understand why people still care about Facebook.
Why should we care about the people on facebook? Them not comming here leaves more money for us up for grabs :)
Besides liberating people from social media enslavement, more steem users means more steem investment ;)
And less steem for us yes. We actually don't even need many users as STM's will take us to the moon @ around July. Stack up on steem before that happens!
more investment means higher steem prices - i am not aware of any evidence that increased levels of users results in less payout value for each user.
well as I see it the reward pool is fixed and more users means less rewards for everyone.
the more users means the more investment into Steem/SBD which means increased prices for them, which means no guarantee of a loss due to increased traffic.
I know but you can't be sure that increase in price compensates for the decrease in rewards. I get what you are saying but we can't be sure of anything, we can only speculate.
when getting to know steemit i stop using other social media, steemit for me is great here our hard work in appreciation ,, i like steemit.
i understand the fear part , because this at the beginning - i am still there - feels too good to be true. But i am becoming a strong believer, yet i am not here just for the money i do want to share and get genuine value trhough unique original and usueful content and relationships, happy to be here !!
On Facebook people generally are to enjoy it on are u r for Ur bread and butter (which clearly is dissolving minnows).FB blogging is stress free but with steel u burn Ur blood yet u get anything (hardly)
