As it is his private stake he can do whatever he wants - maybe he does this to support some great community initiative, maybe to support SMT development - who knows? It is the bloody totally open transparency on a blockchain that destroys privacy - whatever @ned is doing it will be commented.
To me it has nothing to do with gaining or losing trust to platform / ecosystem. The lack of communication was worse in the past.
