Make Steemit great. Upvote the good. Users and abusers.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Yes folks, it's time for another Steemit and bad content rant. Maybe it's the amount of time I've spent on the steemcleaners discord channel. I don't know but seriously, WTF?

Have you looked at your feed lately? Terrible! I've been spending the last week unfollowing content that I wasn't into. To be fair, not all of it was bad, some was content I just didn't care about. I want my feed to be stuff that I want to see. I want to enjoy steemit as much as I used to enjoy Facebook.

Let me give you a bit of background. When I first started here I was a bit over eager. Though I did make the effort to find and follow quality content producers I also followed back anyone that follows me. That was my biggest mistake. I realized I was no longer able to find the content that I liked and my feed was instead filled with terrible photos, languages I don't understand, or bad attempts at plagiarism. I was no longer enjoying looking at content on steemit. This is a bad thing as I wrote about this before.

One of the great things about steemit and the steem blockchain is the value associated with it. Maybe I've got it all wrong and I'm sure I'll hear about it in the comments but the value is tied to the perceived value created by the users of the system. This is where the threat to the whole steem system rears its ugly head.

Too many people think that this is some kind of free money grab. They post terrible content, they beg for upvotes endlessly, or they straight up cheat and copy paste into gear and expect to get paid. Worse still they take articles written by someone else, run them through an app that changes some words around and posts an incoherent version of someone else's work on here.

If this is what steemit becomes it loses all value, then not only to the cheaters and theives lose but they run the platform that can be so great.

We must act!
Everyone that cares about the platform needs to start supporting the good content and speak up about the bad things. Report to @steemcleaners, perhaps flag if it deserves it. See who your upvotes are supporting. Make sure it's someone that's trying.

There are lots of people doing good and hard work on this system everyday. Awesome articles that are carefully thought out and well written. Superb photography with and without long descriptions. (I argue that even without much text that much effort still goes into good photography). Usefull information, funny cartoons, glimpses into other cultures; this could be everything Facebook missed out on but it's up to those of us that care!

What can we do?

  1. Clean your feed. Make it fun to go through your feed again. Make it an asset to your steemit experience. It should only have content valuable to you.

  2. Resteem, but don't overdo it. Help someone great get discovered with a resteem. If we've done step one they will get noticed.

  3. Upvote for good content. Reward those that you feel should be rewarded.

  4. Submit something personal and something you worked hard on. There will be people that will read your blog and give you upvotes if you submit something genuine.

Now here's a picture to help grab people's attention in the feed. This is an angry sky, an unpleasant sky. Let's not go this way.

Let's have a new dawn of a great steemit! If you agree I'm not afraid to ask: resteem and upvote!

Check @resteembot's introduction post or the other great posts I already resteemed.

I find my feed a pretty good place with loads of great content! I never did follow for follow because then you are not interested in what people are posting. I dont follow that many people which I think is key, and I often go through and unfollow any that I am no longer interested in or resteem to much etc.

There is so much good content on here but you have to go out and find it

Yes I made a mistake doing that. I've returned my feed to a much better place now.

Great! Yeah It is a bit of a constant process for me - making sure that the feed is just how I want it

Excellent. Mines much better now. I probably spent too long on discord watching scammers explaining why they shouldn't be flagged.

LOL @waggy6 I just ignore pretty much most people that message me on Discord unless they have a genuine reason for reaching out to me
