The value of STEEM dropped below a $1.00 and all of a sudden... a massive Purge has begun. Will you survive the night?
The authenticity of the Steemit community is the most valuable asset we all have. A melting pot of artists, writers, readers, learners, teachers and preachers. A wonderful collection of like minded people that share similar ambitions. A truly unique place and that is why this "purge" may be the best thing that could happen to us.
Steemit grew very quickly in the month of June and almost all of us were introduced because of the incredible rise the values of cryptocurrency. Crypto and Steemit saw a huge influx of people. All the people that bought into crypto and Steemit fall into one of two categories.
1. People looking to get into crypto and Steemit for the long-run because they see them as a growing and valuable part of the future. A long-term investment.
2. People looking to make a quick buck and think they would be driving Lambos by the end of the summer and making posts worth $1,000 each by the end of the month.
With the value dropping over 50% since the month all these new people joined, if they are just for the money, then they are not going to be as active. Those are also the people that don't provide a lot of value when they comment and post. They try to post what they think will make them money instead of thinking about what will add value to the reader.
I have a perfect example... the only time I've been flagged was by a person that came on my post and had some harsh words about part of my funny gif post. I was nice and replied and proved how the person was wrong. I was then told that I should wait a couple of months when they would be running Steemit and turn it into a fashion blogging site.
Of course I offered my opinion why that would not happen and I got flagged and the person stopped interacting. Today I went back to that post and clicked the profile and they have not posted in over a week. That was a person here for the quick buck and unrealistic goals and they are not active anymore.
When people like that leave, it is best for the community anyway. I imagine moving forward we will see spikes and large influxes of people over a month or so, and then many will leave in the dips. It doesn't matter, the best ones end up staying because they see longterm value.
When quality members are committed to the longterm success of Steemit, then our community will only get better and grow at a manageable rate.
I am one of those that joined in June and I am here for the long-run because I see the value of the community and over the course of a year or two, my wallet value will be up as well.
Don't worry about the purge... we'll survive and it will be better on the other side.

Let me know what you think about the Steemit Purge and if you agree this could be the best thing that could have happened right now. If you disagree, cool, let's have a discussion.
To my followers, you are the cheese to my pizza! You all rock.
This can only be a good thing, for those people looking for get rich quick see no value in the platform. This will mean us in it for the long term have more opportunity to grow so right now if the value goes down I am not worried about short term. Because long term I see much higher values than currently as we enter the digital age. Great post
Thank you so much and I think you are very right. It is kind of exciting to be on something so early and see people just walk away from great opportunities because they don't want to put in the work. Thanks for the reply.
Totally agree! At this moment I don't give a flying fig what the price of Steem is. Or that cryptos are down. Long haul all the way. A creative outlet. A place where I can meet interesting, intelligent people and share my writing and maybe photos and videos and art and get instant feedback. And learn learn learn as much as I can about cryptocurrencies for the future.
This is a very interesting place for sure. I love it as well. I do try to watch the price of STEEM and the price of SBD to know when the best time to transfer is. That has helped me squeeze a little more value of some up my powering up. thanks for the great reply!
That makes sense. Will be watching your posts.
I didn't even know, that there is some kind of purge.
Yeah I agree... quality over just plain quantity. Upvoted and resteemed for you!
Steem soon will be 3 USD, no doubts.
love the gifs with this lol
Well said, a place of value on the internet is rare and like you am very new and plan on staying. Thank you for the post.
I wouldn't really call it a purge so much as an exodus. I recently got back into crypto because I got an email from coinbase telling me they gave me a ten dollar referral fee and when I looked there was another much older referral that had gone from 10 to 100 dollars.
When I saw this place I was very happy because I can get rewards for something I like to do anyway. The price of Steem right now to me is irrelevant because I have no doubt it will go back up one day and I'm in no hurry.
That gif of the baby getting punched by the robot is the funniest gif I have seen in a long time. I watched it longer than I would care to admit.
I'd be wanting to write and share my art no matter what, so it makes no difference to me what the price is.
Me, too. It's a built in audience and people give you instant feedback.
I totally agree that a decline in value, and the mass exodus that inevitably follows when people can't make a quick buck, will prove to be a good thing in the long run. There is a lot of good content on here, but it's getting buried in mounds of crap. A purge of the people who aren't interested in the community could only be a good thing.
The cheese to your pizza I want to be the sauce that's the foundation of success! I love that you call it purge because that's exactly what it feels like are you in it to win it are you in it until you give in?
side note
Tell me more about this person who flag do, we shall go and give him was talking to .
I joined in Nov. 2016-but came back in june because several of my friends joined up. I'm back and noticed the content had gotten better over all. I also have a better understanding of blockchain and crypto currency. I wasn't even remotely in the know back then. Anyway, I do hope this mini crash shakes off the casual users.
wow
Steem on! :)
Great article, thank you! Quality will prevail as people will realize it is the only way to profit in the long run. Best of luck!
