HTML Hacks for Text on Steemit
It's hard gettin' started on Steemit. Doin' All that HTML-y, code-y, program-y stuff...my brain started hurtin!' Got fed up with Editor real quick!
Most of us don't need much. Do some bold, a little italics, maybe shout a bit louder with headings. So, I sat myself down and rummaged around for the best of the simple stuff we all need to know how to do here. And then I added some easy extras!
I'm thinkin' this is the quickest, easiest, plainest explanation for basic HTML there is. You ain't gotta know nothin' about NOTHIN' to use this guide.
May I present...
Web Rydr's WAY Easy Web Text Tutorial
Herein, you shall discover how to:
- Make text bold
- Make text italics
- Make an unordered list with no numbers, just bullets
- Make an ordered list with numbers
- Make a blockquote
- Center a line of text on the page
- Bold a word within a sentence
- Italicize a word within a sentence
- Embed a link within a string of text
- Make large, medium and small Header lines
To make the HTML tags visible, I inserted a space before and after the actual command, so it would show in the text below. When usin' it for real, there are NO SPACES within the HTML tag.
Let's get started, shall we?
To bold text:
< strong >Kage A. Ranger< /strong >
To italicize text:
< em >Enter text for italics here< /em >
To make an unordered list (no numbers):
< ul >
< li >Item 1< /li >
< li >Item 2< /li >
< li >Item 3< /li >
< li >Item 4< /li >
< /ul >
To make an ordered list (numbered items):
< ol >
< li >Item 1< /li >
< li >Item 2< /li >
< li >Item 3< /li >
< li >Item 4< /li >
< /ol >
To create a BLOCKQUOTE:
< blockquote >Lemme introduce myself. I'm Kage A. Ranger. Most folks just call me "KG." You have a cage, I can arrange it for you. Set it up so the bird livin' there will be able to eat, drink, play, rest, move freely and hopefully enjoy the small, confined space you humans allocate for us birds. < /blockquote >
To CENTER a line on the page:
If I wanted to have a line of regular text...
< center >and then a line of centered text< /center >
That's how I'd do it.
To bold a word within a sentence:
Enter the "strong" tag and the word will be bolded.
I want to < strong >bold< /strong > one word.
To italicize a word within a sentence:
Enter the "emphasis" tag and the word will be in italics.
I want to< em >italicize< /em > one word.
To embed a clickable link using one or more words:
[ words ]( the url for the destination of the link )
To create Headings:
< h1 >I want a line in Heading large< /h1 >
< h2 >Then a line in Heading medium< /h2 >
< h3 >And a last line in Heading small< /h3 >
Remember: NO SPACES inside the angle brackets!
If this is all you need, by all means, grab it and go. BUT...if you wanna do a little more...maybe I can help you there, too. I've played around with image editing programs for over 20 years. Never was a PhotoShop fan, though. My needs were simpler.
I wanted to do BASIC things with images. Sharpen 'em up. Brighten or darken, mess with the contrast, maybe change what's called the "RGB" values. That's red, green, blue. Wanted to pick out the best part of an image, isolate that, cut it out, work on that part only.
Then, there's image size. You don't send Mama Kate a 4 MB image of her grandkid's first steps. You trim it down to 188KB, use Messenger, text or email to shoot it to her. And, you wanna remove that part that shows your OTHER kid in the corner, eatin' boogers!
Don't get me wrong. I can "fiddle bits" pretty good. I can take ten, twenty years off your face. Spruce up that dueling scar. Lighten you by 20 pounds, get that evil red gleam outta your eye.
HOWEVER
It may take a bit of 'splainin' to get some 'a these little tricks across.
So, I'm doing Part Two, which will be "Web Rydr's WAY Easy Web Image Tutorial."
It will cover some simple things we want to do with images, such as touching up, cropping, resizing, creating images with text, messin' with the light and shadow...stuff like that. It ain't PicsArt, and I do it on my computer, not my phone or tablet.
Most of it's written, but it ain't got no, you know...PUNCH! So, it cries out for images, graphics, examples, screenshots...all that good stuff.
Didn't need that for this tutorial on text manipulation. But, when you get to IMAGE manipulation...well, be a good idea to at least have some SLIDES!
The Unadulterated, Wholly Self-Serving Appeal
You might miss Part Two.
You don't wanna do THAT!
Quick fix!
Follow me. Allow me into your Feed. I'm a nice guy. I don't drink, don't run around. I got birds. BIG birds. I like to play here.
Try it...you might like it.

@webrydr thanks for the easy tutorial. I've been looking for something like this to make my posts better.
This is SUPER helpful!! I've had ridiculous problems trying to post here and, of course, can't DELETE the posts I've massacred! Thank you so much. Can't wait to see your post on pictures. :)
