Good question! I am quite new to steemit and i feel like it is important to follow back. I think one has to get like 100 to 150 followers to write valuable content, else it is wasted time. When i do some time consuming post people will vote it like 2min. after posting. Than it is buried.
My plan is, after getting like 200 to 250 followers i will start sorting those out, who I feel they don't have valuable content for me.

This makes sense to me. I can easily see how it seems like wasted time if it does not instantly get seen.
