You can do this without 3rd party sites. You just write an article about yourself, drag/drop your photo into the article, publish the article and tag it #introduceyourself, and then go to the article and right-click on the image to copy the url and paste the url into your profile pic.

Agreed! I do not use third party sites at all now. Just find the image you want to use, have it ready, and start a new post. Then use the built in upload tool for Steemit.com. Once the files are uploaded in that post, copy and paste the file links it creates. Now you can cancel that post, and take those links to anywhere else on the platform to use.
