How to generate more traffic for your Posts

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Perhaps the most important thing here on Steemit is getting your post noticed by readers and curators. The more people you can direct to your posts the better. Here are my tips for generating more traffic for your posts.

Traffic

Generating traffic is important that is why setting up a shop in area with a lot of pedestrians like a busy street is more expensive that in an area with almost no traffic.
With Steemit we try to generate traffic to our posts by getting as much people as possible to follow us. Our posts will show up in our follower's feed increasing the chance that they will notice the post, read it and upvote.

In the larger scheme of things traffic is also important for the Steemit website. The more non-streemians find their way to the site, the more chances there are of more people joining. If more people join, the reward pool will grow and all the Steemians will benefit.

The Solution

The way to get more people to visit the Steemit site and your posts is by referrals. Simply put, a link on another site to your incredibly well crafted post will generate more traffic for Steemit.
For example I cross posted my review about the game Limbo on Google plus and medium here.

This kind of cross posting is quite easy and takes little to no effort.
The trick is to not completely repost your original blog. Just add your blog title picture, a link to the post on Steemit and a short description about the subject. The title, short description and your blog title picture should be enough to attract interested readers.

Depending on the scale of your social media network you can attract people from Facebook, Twitter, Medium, Reddit etc and redirect them to Steemit.

Never underestimate the power of the "G"

There is one important player that I left out of my story until now and that is Google. Now Google is not known as a very important player in the Social media world but they have one thing going for them and that is their search engine. Content from Google plus and Google sites (more on this later) gets a higher listing in the Google search results.

This means (very important) that when you write a story about Limbo for example and only post on Steemit and someone else writes a similar story about Limbo but posts this on Google plus chances are that the post on Google plus will get more views than the one on Steemit (regardless of the quality of the post).

But if you post your referral links on Google plus than you have a better chance of people finding your blog. It is also important to mention that the Steemit search is powered by the Google search engine. You will benefit from the fact that your posts have a high ranking with Google, you want to be on top of the search results when other Steemians are searching for keywords that are related to your posts.

Google sites

Google has a lot of services and one of those is called Google sites. If you have a Google account you can use this service to setup a website (hosted by the big "G").
There are a lot of benefits for using the Google sites (here).

  • No Website knowledge needed
Setting up a site is as easy as setting up a Facebook page. You don't need to know anything about building websites to get started and build your fully functional website.

  • No hardware/software needed
Nope, all you need is a Google account. Everything is hosted by Google in some far away Datacenter.

  • It's Google!
The service is run by the same company that owns the most used and powerful search engine in the world. All the content hosted on the Google sites will rank higher in the Google search engine.

People and companies pay a lot of money for SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, basically this means getting your site/content as high as possible in the returned search results, if possible getting that no1 spot.

  • You can categorize your posts
I write about a large number of subjects. Steemit has no function where you can categorize your postss. All I have is a long list of everything I ever submitted, cluttered with resteems in a chronological order.
On the Google site (or any other website) you can make different pages with categories. I made a different web page for gaming posts, social media, crypto etc.
This makes it easy for me but also for others to go directly to their subject of choice and browse through my blogs.

You can find my Google site here, you can see it's filled up with a lot of my Steemit posts. It is still work in progress because I haven't put all of my Steemit posts on it.

  • Google analytics
If you are all into statistics or just want to know how your site is doing than Google has the perfect tool for you. On the google site there is a option called "site analysis". This will setup Google analytics for you where you can track and analyse the traffic to your site.

You can find Google Analytics here

Summary

  • Use links to your Steemit posts on other popular Social media sites (do not cross post your entire blog)

  • Using Google's services will benefit you because you will be easier to find with the Google search engine

  • Generating traffic to your Steemit posts will benefit you and Steemit.
