I've started so many blogs in my life only to delete them after a month. I used to be a little bitch.
I'm such a fast typist, I can throw up a dozen articles in a day or two, slap a Wordpress theme on there and boom - instant website. I would always end up deleting them though.
If I had kept up everything that I'd ever written on ONE single website, I'd have well over 3 million words on there. I can't say that the quality would be on the level of my cryptocurrency articles - works of an inspired genius, obviously - but there's definitely some diamonds in there.
I took them down because I was so worried that someone I knew would find some of the stuff that I wrote and judge me for it. I don't really "let loose" in this Steemit blog because I refer a lot of clients here to see the articles I write on crypto.
I don't even think they read them. I think they just check to make sure I actually wrote something.
Your biggest challenge is being obscure, not being talented
What I eventually realized is that not only is anyone I know super unlikely to stumble across something I write about my personal life, but that there's an infinitesimal chance that they'll actually sit and READ the damn thing.
A close friend, family member or even random acquaintance isn't going to find anything I write. And if they did, what are they going to do? Post it on Facebook and be like, "haha hey everyone look at this loser!"?
Literally nobody cares. People are too wrapped up in their own insecurities to worry about yours. Or mine.
That's part of the reason why I put so much content out there. I post 1-2 articles a day on Steemit. I post 3 times a day on Instagram with long ass captions. I post maybe 20 stories a day. I send like 30 emails a day.
I am throwing seeds all over the internet. But the world is such a vast place, there's virtually no chance that anyone I know is ever going to cross paths with anything I ever produce.
When I used to write more personal stuff, I used to secretly hope that someone WOULD find it. But not like they would hack my computer or something. I wanted them to find it because I had become a famous writer right under their noses and they didn't suspect a thing.
I wanted them to just be scrolling their FB feed only to see that someone who wasn't a mutual friend shared some crazy shit that I'd written. Then they'd recognize my name, read some of what I'd written and be like, "OH MY GOD I KNOW THAT GUY! Damn... he IS weird!"
Then they'd send me a message or something and be like, "Hey I just wanted to say that I found that thing you wrote. Wow.. you're such a good writer!"
Grandiose delusions - a writer's best friend
I don't think I've ever actually articulated that particular fantasy before, but I've had it for years. Even writing this post is purely an exercise in vanity, in hopes that someday someone will actually pore through all the stuff I've written on here, find this exact post and know that one little factoid about me.
It's ridiculous now that I actually put words to it.
The funny part is that even if someone I know does read this, there's no way they're going to let on to the fact that they read it. They're not going to actually TELL ME that they read it, because then they'd be worried that I'd alter some of my future writing to account for the fact that I know they're reading it.
They want the AUTHENTIC experience. So by admitting my little fantasy, have I actually just ensured that it will never become reality?
And that's even assuming they have the patience to get through the entire article!
I don't even know why I'm talking about this. This is what I get for being a philosophy major.
You know what I like about Steemit though? All I have to do if I want people to read this is just buy some upvotes from one of the voting bots. Pay for a couple of resteems and all of a sudden I have a readership.
Sure, most of them are probably random Pakistanis who are trying to score their own $0.01 upvotes. But when you scroll through your post history and see those numbers - 94 upvotes here, 117 upvotes there - it gives you the warm fuzzies.
For someone like me, a semi-functioning adult with way too much cryptocurrency to burn, this is a great way to pretty much force random people to listen to my inane ramblings. All I have to do is transfer some SBD to a couple accounts and tomorrow I'll have a bunch of random Paki comments and some fake money on this post.
I don't think my fantasy will ever come true. That's probably a good thing, because if I ever had the feeling like, "Wow, I actually made it," then I probably wouldn't work as hard as I do now. I'd stop doing the very thing that made me successful in the first place.
Maybe that's why writers write their whole lives. Because they have the same fantasy as me. And it never comes true.
What do you think makes a good writer?

I approve :)
i agree with you,friend.@artakan
I agree with you when you said "need to be obscure more than being talented" and this is real.
One more thing: patience is an important key to success, Because building audience and supporters need patience and continuation :)
That's why few people success and more can't wait so they not gain results.
Thank you for your helpful post Yallapapi :)

this post is nice in fact this is very important to engage new mwmbers
Yeah! Right.
That is what most would be writers fantasize about I think.
But for you it is just a necessity for the purpose of writing itself.
I Like what you write.
grtz, @vjbasil
You just got .01 upost from this non Pakistani who read to the end

well am new here on steemit, but to be frank this is just the best write up i ever come across on this site
keep it up bro
i hope to learn more from you
You pushed a painful button with each paragraph here man.
Everyone's feeling it but you're the only able to write it down, that makes you a good writer.
I broke out of sweat when I realized I couldn't remove my posts.
Then I realized:
So what. Am I really going to be scared of a potential employee's disaproval? It's a well meaning article and If I'm proved wrong I'll be able to admit my mistakes.
Don't let yourself get silenced, especially on sensitive topics!
In fact I wrote a tiny article inspired by yours!
It better be good
Hey there! Nice article. As a writer new to Steemit I can understand what you are going through. It's hard to spend all this time writing only to see your post get no attention. And the whole buying resteems and upvote bots can be a little unsettling when we as writer want so badly for readers to find, and enjoy our articles naturally.
I liked the honest self reflection in your post. As someone in the same boat who just published his first article on here yesterday, I can relate and respect it. Followed and resteemed.
my posts get plenty of attention because I buy upvotes

Very nice to see someone can be so bold to talk his/her hearts out. These true out of heart words only will entice lot of people. You dont have to struggle to get people read it.
I think we should just focus on what we love doing than expecting result. Little philosophical, but let results be left to destiny.
If you really start believing in DESTINY, lot of things will start falling in place and you will chase focus your dream and do what you love doing than worring what others will think and act accordingly.
Since you can't control/change/brainwash others better and worthwhile to only focus on yourself, your work, your dream and your passion....success will follow as per TIME/DESTINY...
And don't forget to HELP others in whatever way you can in this journey.
Yes this will not earn you money but will earn you peace of mind...
My thought...criticism welcome :)
I can't believe I read the whole thing ☺️
Good post.
Thank you for sharing such important post.
I'm not from Pakistan, and I read it because I wanted to, it was a good read, I think you have what it needs to be a good writter.
Just wondering, do you write even more when you're on a certain mood? In my case I tend to write when I'm depressed, and I used to do it like crazy. When in a different mood, I'm not so well articulated, have you experienced something similar?
Yo, thank you. I actually write quite a bit. To give you an idea:
I manage 3 blogs for clients where I post 1-3 times per day
I post 1-2 articles on my own blog every day
I post 2-3 times per day on my Instagram with long captions, like mini blog posts
I also write marketing reports for companies I work with which are several pages long
I also kept a journal for years where I would write about what I did every day
The point I'm trying to make is that if you want to be a good writer, you need to write all the time. You see all those links at the end of my post? Those were all written in the past 6 weeks. That's not even all of them. And that's only on Steemit.
You can't just wait until you're in the mood. It's like being in shape. You can't just work out when you feel like it, you need to drag your ass to the gym every day and do it even when you aren't in the mood.
That said, I find that when I have something on my mind I tend to produce good work. The challenge is continuing to write every day even when you don't have that special something to write about.
If I can't write anything interesting, I'll just write an article on crypto. Doesn't require much thinking.
Thanks for sharing! Engaging read
Woah, I can say for sure we have different outlooks but I appreciate your candor and self reflection.
I’d like for a reasonable amount of people to read and really feel what I’m saying, I’ve never expected to reach millions and don’t really think anyone should reach millions and have that much power. I’m not too worried about people from my 3D life coming to judge me, anyone who cares enough to go out of their way has issues. I’m more worried about bots collecting my every thought and using it to profile me and predict my future behavior.
I see, the idea to buy some upvotes wasn't a joke then, this post sounds like my mind rambling when I lie in bed at night unable to sleep. ;)
I guess we all have these kind of phantasies or similar ones.
Oh yeah and my Pakistani friends say hi.
This is my main style of writing. It takes a lot of concentration for me to write a "normal" article like my crypto ones.
Tell Habib I saw wasssuppppppppppppppppp
Hey, @yallapapi !!! Nice Post.
I always Expecting such type of informative post on your blog.
Exceptionally clever. That logic major in you is turning out so anyone can hear and solid. LOL! A debt of gratitude is in order for a new perspective. As an author new to Steemit I can comprehend what you are experiencing. It's difficult to invest this energy composing just to see your post get no consideration. As somebody in a comparable situation who simply distributed his first article on here yesterday, I can relate and regard it. You express your thoughts Buenas thinking of them on a quite familiar way. That influences your substance to have huge Quality.I to figure we as a whole have these sorts of phantasies or comparative ones.
A good writer is someone who isn't afraid to write stuff even if they're personal or scandalous! Like, what if someone you know reads it? Hell, my mom is here somewhere on Steemit (hi mom), but it's on her if she's gonna read me. Because you know what? Fuck it. That's a good writer. (Ps. Not that I am anything close to a good writer, but I've found that the best writers have the "Fuck It" in common)
James Altucher says that the quality of your writing drops by 1% for every person whose opinion you care about... I try to stay as close to 100% as possible
lm glad to read your post thank you
I must admit I had to chuckle reading your article. And will read a few of your other ones now. I also had to grin because I can fully relate to the whole "getting discovered by people I know" thing :). Very enjoyable article.

Surprisingly they actually read them :-D
If you are not talented at least you were inspired when you wrote this. Good piece of writing mate. This comment and upvote is free of charge and made for a spanish guy.
que excellente
Great article and is that a little baby Sphinx cat at the bottom ?! 😍
@yallapapi Reading through your was a pleasure. And will definitely come back to go through your other write-ups. Sometimes when we pour down our heart in writing, they may not make sense at first but with time, but they eventually do days, months or years later so endeavor to keep them for reference sake.
aside from obscurity, another major obstacle is the fact that nobody reads anything anymore. Hence, you have +250 votes yet 190 views.
I think just keep writing and we will success someday
Very useful.
I have no idea what makes a good writer, if I did, I would be rich, famous and probably drunk right now. I always had a fear of family and friends finding anything I wrote online, but for different reasons than you, I have a fear of injury and have no desire to spend anymore time in Intensive care.
Dance! Monkey Money, Dance! jajaja XD Genius! Greets!
Definitely not the number of words. I'm a f*cking diagonal reader.
This is my first comment. I'm not sure why I've stumbled upon your writing, but I do like your style. Enough flattering. I've got to move on to consuming other vanity posts.
