Our team would like to thank all the beta testers who have helped us with their feedback
These last two weeks we have been making some changes in our app and also bug fixes which were found during beta testing. It was an amazing experience to see so many people react to our post. We have even received a video review from @brandonfrye, at was extremely helpful to see how someone else was using our app live with detailed feedback. Here is the link to the video article if anyone wants to see it. In the video there were some epic bugs, which were successfully Fixed. Thanks Brandon.
The more testers there are the better it is for developers and designers to see where they have gone wrong. For developers, there are many crash reports, which show which devices behave differently and crash for whatever reason. Especially with Android where there is such a variety of devices (over 500) which are supported by our app, each device behaves very differently. And early beta testing with so many users is just a blessing to see and fix these kinds of problems.
As we are inventing new User Interface some things are very obvious to us, but with feedback from our beta tester we can see where that is not obvious for everyone. It has been an amazing experience to have over 150 testers making our Community funded and now Community tested app much better than it was planned.
Bugs fixed on Android
- UI bugs which made the app look different than in design
- When getting images to the post from camera and turning the screen horizontally, app used to crash. This was actually Android's bug which was patched to work well in our app.
- Text did not get saved when exiting the App. This was fixed in the early releases.
- Early android versions had a bug when saving the key in the Android Key Store.
- 5 min timer was added between making new posts. Steemit policy.
- If you accidentally provide wrong username to login, then the app crashes continuously unless reinstalled or cleared data. That was fixed, too.
- Steemit uses, credentials to upload photos on Steemit. If you have experienced difficulty uploading photos it was probably because App used to send empty posting key for uploading images. Now that is fixed.
- Without internet App used to crash.
- Quotation could not be removed, we have received a couple of tickets from beta testers about that.
- One beta tester from China pointed out that he could not add a tag with two symbols "cn", added the possibility to add tags with only one symbol.
- Thanks to @brandonfrye we have noticed that now everyone sees that we have added many icons above the keyboard, and you can actually swipe through them to get access to photo uploads, lists etc. So we have added a shadow on the right to point out that you can scroll to the right.
- Added a small (i) icon to let people start the on-boarding (login tutorial) if they have skipped it and want to see it again.
Bugs fixed on iOS
- Text did not get saved on exit or even close the Create article button. Immediately fixed that.
- Similarly like on Android the quotation button once pressed did not allow the user to turn it off.
- Thanks to @brandonfrye we have noticed that now everyone sees that we have added many icons above the keyboard, and you can actually swipe through them to get access to photo uploads, lists etc. So we have added a shadow on the right to point out that you can scroll to the right.
- Fixed all the UI issues, now the app looks just like it was designed.
- Underline icon did not work. It turns out that Steemit does not support the text underline function even if you add it in the html format. So we had to remove this button for now.
- On-boarding was successfully implemented to ease the lives of people who have trouble finding their private key.
- In the process of making the copy and paste the image right into the text possible.
- Title and body are now like a placehoder, just as planned.
- Sometimes it was not clear where the title field ends or where the body starts, so we have added a small divider between those.
- Added the (i) icon just like on Android to show the Login tutorial (onboarding) if you have skipped it.
- Title was sometimes appearing as text body and some parts of the body text was the title. Epic bug, which was fixed.
On-boarding for logging in
We have received a couple of requests about people having hard time logging in, meaning they do not know how to get their Active Private Key. It is the first step in the App and it is crucial to help users with it. Which is why we decided to make an on-boarding process in the app. It will guide you through the steps you have to make to get you active private key from Steemit. There will also be a similar QR tutorial, because it is not 100% obvious that you need to press on the small QR icon on Steemit to get you actual Private Key shown.
We are very exited that Release is very close
Tomorrow we are going to send the apps to the App Store and Google Play. There are just small things left to make the app work well for posting content on Steemit and they will be fixed tomorrow, too. It takes from 3-10 days to get the App to the live Stores for everyone to get their hands on them. Of course development will not stop on the first Release, we have a lot of updates we would like to bring in to the app for the Community.
We are glad to be making a useful app for the community.
Expect the App to be in the stores early April or even end of this week.
Regards,
SteemApp Team
Ooooh! So much work has been done! Indeed, when running applications encountered small problems. Good job. I hope the application will work much better and will become more convenient to work with.
It sure will )) Thank you for understanding!
I'm glad to see that you are actively working on the application! Wish you luck!
Yeah, we are! Release very soon, want to use the app myself
I'm pretty damned psyched about this. The truth is that a mobile app is going to be vital for any long term block chain projects to survive. You cannot achieve mass adoption for block chain and for crypto without good Mobile Apps.
I'm a big fan of Steemit and I want to see it defeat or replace the orwellian Facebook and Twitter. Shit they can keep YouTube too!
