Downy Woodpecker braving the breezes from December 2016

Today's Flashback Foto is another one from two years ago (December 15th, 2016). It was, as I recall, a particularly windy afternoon (no, my memory isn't that good - I figured it out based on all the pictures I have from that day of grumpy birds with ruffled feathers. ..lol). This Downy Woodpecker certainly doesn't seem too pleased, but at least the bird feeders were full, so he got some sunflower seeds for his troubles.

We don't get woodpeckers in my neck of the woods, so it's nice to know for certain that Woody Woodpecker wasn't just an imaginary cartoon bird!!!

We actually have a few different types of woodpeckers around here, including the species that inspired Woody, called the pileated woodpecker. In fact, I think I'll dig one of those photos out of my archives for today's post - thanks for the inspiration, @steveblucher!

Ha! That's hilarious! It's funny, it doesn't look a great deal like Woody Woodpecker. His creators must've taken some poetic licence when drawing him.
