We, as teachers are the front guard in educating students to become real human. Giving the best to our students is our job, especially in the teaching process. To support the achievement of student learning objectives, methods, techniques and learning models should be applied in accordance with the applied curriculum and student needs. Adjustment of teaching methods and techniques in the technological era is also indispensable for the achievement of established goals. Therefore, once again, teachers have a central role in education at various levels.
Based on the above explanation, we as teachers must be convinced that the student-centered learning model is a current need. we Do not be selfish and closed-minded towards change, so we tend to maintain a conservative learning method. With the reason that we used to be successful with the method. Obviously, we find many cases like this, and this is very ironic. In fact, I think this is the selfishness of teachers to their students.
Therefore, in this article I intend to describe some teaching techniques that should be mastered by teachers as an effort to encourage autonomous learning to students:
1. Learn before school
This technique is one of the teaching techniques in which teachers continually strive to encourage students to learn the material before it is taught by the teacher in the classroom. For each learning session, students are motivated to study the next topic independently. Learning resources can come from various sources, such as textbooks, internet, or other relevant sources. Some control techniques are required by the teacher to ensure that each student is involved in independent learning outside the school. In addition, student time management also needs to be taught so that students do not overdose while studying in their homes and they still have time for other social activities.
2. Learning by solving problem
Problem solving is one of constructive learning techniques. In teaching students, we give them some real and actual cases. In the process, learning by this technique emphasizes the analytical aspect. Students are encouraged to think critically, creatively and responsibly. To solve the problem, students should collaborate with their group members in a collaborative way. In addition, the teacher in this case only acts as a facilitator, or as an instructor only when deemed necessary.
3. Learning by gaming
Using games in learning is also very important to apply. This learning technique focuses on the sense of comfort felt by the students. Games played must be in accordance with the topic of learning for the results studied to be valid. The interesting of learning by suing games is they usually do not realize that they are learning. The technique of teaching students through games is very interesting and challenging to be applied by teachers in their classes.
4. Learning by using social media
In today's technological era, social media is a necessity for everyone. It is undeniable that every student, especially the high school level has a social media account, either facebook, twitter, or Instagram. Therefore, involving the use of social media in learning is a great idea. I am trying to give an example of how I used Instagram for English classes. I taught English, the topic is descriptive text. I asked my students to take a photo of a place and asked them describe the place in the caption column. Next, I checked each student post and wrote the feedback in the comments column to give a positive reinforcement of their writing.
In conclusion, we, as teachers, must be aware of changes in the dynamics of student learning. Each learning model that we apply must be oriented to the students and according to their needs. Several other strategies are also needed to anticipate the negative effects of using games and social media in learning. Every step taken must be in consideration of the positive values that will be found by students during learning to use a particular model or learning technique.
