The first thing that you will most probably think is who does not know that you have to brush your teeth every day? This is something you have been doing since you were a small child...
The question is not do you look after your teeth, the question is are you brushing and flossing in the correct manner?
If you are like me, you will try and avoid visits to the dentist for work to be done - definitely not my favourite place to go - so looking after your teeth and practicing good dental hygiene is very important in order to avoid visiting the dentist for a drilling session or two.
Say goodbye to plaque
Plaque is the layer of bacteria that coats your teeth and will cause cavities (holes) if they are not brushed away. The best way to do this is to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day. The brush will also stimulate the gums, which will insure that your gums stay healthy.
Make sure that the toothpaste you choose to use, does not only taste good, but contains fluoride - this active ingredient will prevent cavities.
Give special care to the inside of your lower teeth and the back teeth because plague can turn into tartar - this is a hardened form of plague and can not be removed with a brush. You will have to go to the dentist to remove it with a special tool.
If your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold you can buy special toothpaste, but if it continues hurting, you may have to visit your dentist, since this can be an indication of a cavity.
The most important part in brushing is that you do it in the correct manner and for at least 2 minutes.
Time to bring out the floss
Brushing every day is important, but flossing your teeth also plays a huge roll in dental hygiene.
The type of floss you choose will depend on how big the spaces between your teeth are, but unwaxed floss is the thinnest and will fit in between all of your teeth.
Most importantly be careful with how you floss your teeth that you do not hurt your gums.
Products that claim to make your teeth whiter
Some toothpastes claim that it will whiten your teeth - who do not want lovely white teeth?
There is nothing wrong with using these toothpastes, as long as it still contains fluoride and can clean the plague.
It is very important that you rather talk to your dentist about whitening your teeth than buying some over the counter products. Some of these products will whiten your teeth, but can also damage it as well as your teeth. Also make sure you follow the instructions and not keep it on longer because you think it will whiten your teeth more.
There are also some home remedies that you can use to whiten your teeth. Read more about it here https://homeremedyshop.com/29-home-remedies-for-teeth-whitening/
The food you eat
Sugary and starchy food produces acid in your mouth which means the enamel of your teeth is at greater risk to be damaged. If you eat a lot of these types of food, it is important that you keep your teeth clean and brush it after you are done eating. It is best to refrain from eating sugary snacks just before you go to bed, unless you first brush and then go to sleep.
Seeing your dentist regularly
It is important that even if you take good care of your teeth you still visit the dentist every 6 months. Just for prevention and making sure everything is still in order. You can also get a good clean for your teeth to make sure there are no tartar build up.
Your dentist will also have a look for cavities and tell you if you maybe need braces to help straighten your teeth. There is no age limit to getting braces and her are a few signs that you will notice if you need to go and visit your dentist and ask him about getting braces. https://1stfamilydental.com/5-signs-may-need-braces/
It is very important that we practice good dental hygiene. We only have one set of teeth and when they fall out we need to get different procedures done. There are different problems that can occur if you do not look after your teeth and the scariest part is it will affect more than just your teeth. Your general health can also be influenced https://www.absolutedental.com/10-health-issues-caused-by-bad-oral-health/
So brush and floss away and care for your teeth that you can still flash that lovely smile for a long time to come.
