I totally agree with you especially to teach them how to responsible. Ask them to tidy up their own toy is one simple example of how to teach them to be able to take responsibility.
I notice that you mentioned ask them about to choose their menu, what they like for a gift for friends and etc, this is new for me. So, this point make them to be a brave kids. Nice, thank you for such impressive knowledge that you share for us. ^_^
