Guilt of Teachers

Teachers feel great when their pupils make progress and show great academic achievement.

Teaching is really a job that nurture and mould future generation where most teachers get their job satisfaction for grooming fantastic students.

I will like to highlight areas of guilt behind the many successful stories to raise the awareness for rectification even if you are not a teacher.

Guilt 1: Health

Many teachers can go many days without proper sleep just to complete the work that needs to be completed on time.

Many teachers like me may only sleep less than 5 hours daily.

Over-responsible teachers may also spend most of their free time completing school work without taking time to wind down over the weekends.

They are constantly under stress without proper rest.

Most of them are very sickly and they suffered serious illness as age catches up.

We are guilty for the treating our bodies and taking care of our mental health.

Without good health, we may also end up taking medical leave resulting neglecting our pupils.

Guilt 2: Family

As responsible teachers, many may have sacrificed their family time to complete their school work.

They lack the work-life balance to have a healthy family life as well as school work.

I was teaching a graduating class when my son was also going to take the major graduating examination to qualify for the next level of education.

As a teacher, I was responsible to teach my class effectively and spend time after school to give additional classes as well.

The fact was guilty for not giving enough time for my son’s revision. I had given my time and attention to my pupils.

Are you also guilty of this?

Are your children being neglected as you are spending more time teaching pupils who are not your children?

There is definitely a need to balance our work and the quality time we need to spend with our family.

Guilt 3: Leisure

I am guilty of not having very much leisure in life. My present leisure can be food as well as writing articles in steemit.

Teachers are too concerned in helping our pupils that we forget that we are human.

There is a need to take a breather to calm our minds.

As I am writing this article, it is a reminder to me that I have not gone for a tour for many years.

We deserve a good break. Give yourself a break when you know you need it the most.

The burnout strikes us when we least expected resulting some teachers give up totally and resigned from their once passionate job.

This article acts as a reminder to us. I am not qualified to point finger at anyone else as I am guilty too. There are definitely more things that we need to rectify but let’s take it a step at a time.

Guilty of all of them..haha.. That being said, I think it is important to have some balance in life, without that, we can get burnt out pretty quick

It is so true indeed.

Hi fun2lean,
that guilt sounds pretty familiar. Though I do not see it so negative. I love to burn for my pupils and I do not have the feeling to burn out as I get enought "fuel" back from them.
Anyway I know that things will be different, when I am going to have own children. When I plan my lessons, I consider how much of the planning I can reuse next year, so I can save time long term.
Great post, keep up the great work.

Thank you for your encouragement. Definitely we always run the extra mile for our students and students are our motivation to move further in this journey.

I consider teachers to the Source of knowledge and wisdom, they should be given Maximum respect their great work.
