Just like yawning is contagious, so are moods…

Who Are the Happy People in Your Life?

If you spend a lot of time around depressed and sad people, chances are that you will start to feel down and if you are hanging out with a group of happy people, you can’t help but crack a smile. So it makes sense to hang around happy people, if it is your goal to become happier.

Does this mean you should shut out all the people who are not super duper happy out of your life?

Of course not!

We all have important people in our lives who we love and cherish who may not have the sunniest of dispositions, plus we all have happier and sad times, so it would just be unthinkable to avoid our loved ones at these times.

What I suggest is, is to identify who the happy people in your life are. Think about who your cheerleaders are. Who cheers you up when you see or hear from them? Who puts a smile on your face without fail? They might be friends, family or acquaintances.

Build a Support Group

If you build a support system of these people, you have people to turn to to help improve your mood when you are feeling a little down.

When you are feeling down, you should be aware of how negative and sad people may bring your mood down further. So, in these times you may need to get yourself in a better place by spending time with your smiley happy people group, before spending time with them. I understand this can be really hard, especially if you live in the same house as someone who is permanently down.

I don’t advocate shutting people out of your life, but you need to be aware of your own energy and happiness levels, as it could be that you become or are their cheerleader and you help them more than you know. So when you are happy, spread it around because as we’ve said feeling good about life is contagious and smiling and laughing are the vehicles of joy.

When you are down, soak up the joy from happy people. Give that friend a call, who will make you feel better instantly, or call up your Mum or Dad or someone who cares for you and tell them how you are feeling.

Spread Contagious Happiness

Talk about contagious happiness and happiness support groups where you can, so that when we are feeling on top, we can pass some contagious happiness on :)

Let your friends and loved one know that you are there for them, if they need cheering or building up, as let’s face it some days go better than others.

If we all make a habit of building each other up and creating that happiness support system, we can make a great difference to each other’s lives and our own.
