Having written my last two blogs about "books" albeit from a different angle, I was reminded about a thought I had some time ago.
The UK government, together with the media have, in recent times, really been promoting the importance of books and reading to young children, and yes this is so very important!!.
However they have failed to promote pre-reading skills in young children. Talking, explaining, describing, and listening to a small child gives them the knowledge, understanding and confidence to recognise the words in the books they are expected to read!!!!
Even the least resourced family can talk and listen to their children.
I would love to hear comments from anyone who agrees/disagrees or has any other thoughts about this?.
