Original or fake? Don't be fooled by shimmering pebbles!

Nowadays it is very trendy to wear mineral jewelry, not only because they are beautiful, but also because they have a healing, positive effect. Because some minerals are very rare and expensive, they are often replaced by worthless imitations that are seemingly beautiful but have no positive effect. Christmas is coming soon. Mineral fairs and street markets are a source of confusion and, if you have the money, you will be easily seduced. Then at home you realize how much they've been tricked you. Unfortunately, I also have been fooled many times. This time I'm going to show you some of my real stones and imitations.

Turquoise

Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium. High quality turquoise is hard (up to Mohs 6), lower quality is porous, easy to fracture. Transparence: opaque. Lustre of turquoise is waxy, not glossy. Turquoise may also be peppered with flecks of pyrite.
Occurrences: Turkey, Iran, Sinai, USA (Arizona, Nevada), Poland, Hungary
African turquoise doesn't exist!

Effects:

Turquoise is named after Turkey, as it was first discovered there. It became famous as the amulet of the Crusaders, but was protected in many cultures against damaging curse and destruction. One of our most powerful healing minerals, it regenerates tissues, strengthens the immune system, and supports the absorption of nutrients. It encourages us to always say what we think and realizes that we are solely responsible for our destiny. It calms the nerves, but at the same time it energizes the body. It heals throat problems, larynx, thyroid and improves communication. Protects against viral diseases, reduces arthritis, neutralizes over acidity, relieves rheumatism and stomach complaints. Stimulates muscle development, enhances brain function and enhances creativity. It has an analgesic, detoxifying effect and protects the whole body.

Fake turquoise

In most cases, the white howlit is painted. Howlit is also a mineral, but much cheaper. The paint does not go deep inside the material, if it is broken in half, you can see it's white inside.
I have one must be false "turquoise" (the biggest pebble), 2 pieces uncertain and one real Iranian in silver setting. I'll show them to a mineral expert soon.

I find it scandalous that imitations of plastic and resin also can be found as turquoise!
There are also reconstructed stones that are made by mixing real but poor quality turquoise debris with binder, that makes it solid.

Sunstone and Goldflush

Sunstone is the crystal of happiness and long life. Traditionally, it's the stone of gods and bring good luck to its owner. It stimulates the body's self-healing ability, ensures proper energy flow in the body and harmonizes the function of the chakras. It has anti-inflammatory effect, has a beneficial effect on throat and stomach ulcer. It is a general analgesic, helps to eliminate pain caused by cartilage problems and has a beneficial effect on rheumatism. It replenishes the body with vitality, eliminates the symptoms of depression, removes fear and stimulates the vegetative nervous system.
When shopping, be careful not to mix it with artificial goldflush.
Goldflush is an artifical stone, not mineral. Made of glass and copper particles. Goldflush is misleadingly called sunstone and is often sold under that name.

"Dragon vein agate" - a real fake! Such mineral doesn't exist!

It is a piece of cracked and etched glass, colored with ink that seeped into the cracks. Well, I have one (originally from Africa), but it was broken some years ago. I glued it with superglue, but never weared.

Cat's eye

I have a stone that I got as a cat eye. Truth be told, I can't decide if it's real or fake. It has simple light grayish-brown color but has no inclusion. So I think it may be glass.

Orgonite - beautiful but it has no healing effect!

Orgonite is made of mainly resin with some cheap stones and mineral shavings.

I used to make jewellery with all kinds of stones and materials. That fake Turquoise was probably one of the most popular ones! And also one of the cheapest.
