"Woolbag" stones of Pákozd

in #steemiteducation6 years ago (edited)

These beautiful granite rock formations located north of Pákozd.
These stones, rounded by erosion, look like a giant playing with them as building blocks. There are narrow caves between the stones.

The Velence Mountains are the smallest of the Transdanubian Mountains. The highest point is the Meleg-hegy (352 meters). Its main mass formed during the Carbon age (about 350 - 285 million years) and during the formation of the Variscan Mountains, which squeezed from the deep, lifted the sedimentary rocks of the earth's crust, and then slowly cooled. The next approx. 250 million years have passed through the decay of the topcoats and then the granite by external forces. In the Eocene (about 55 - 38 million years ago), andesite volcanoes broke up, then the cones later decayed.
In the Pliocene (about 5 - 2.4 million years ago), the mountains have sunk, some of which has been flooded by the Pannonian Sea, which is marked by sea sand scattered throughout the mountains. In the Pleistocene (about 2.4 million - 10 thousand years) it was partly on the Pannonian layers and partly on the granite loess, accumulating in windy places. Since the Pliocene, the mountain range has been significantly elevated, and its elevation has formed its surface today.
