Sometimes, the relationship that exists between some parents and teachers is not always the best for the teacher, since they have to deal with difficult parents in some cases, either because they are overprotective parents with their children and want to get involved more than what is possible. at school there is also the kind of know-it-all parents that only they and nothing else are right in all or perhaps the ubiquitous parents because they are anywhere at any time or maybe the typical parents who think they are the teachers in the schools up to the absent parents are part of this and I think these are the most difficult in this case, in short, there is a wide variety of difficult parents in our children's schools. However, the situation should be controlled as much as possible by parents and teachers, depending on the type of parent. Actually, I am not a teacher, but I am the mother of a 5 year old girl who attends the 3rd level in preschool and I have been able to observe sometimes when I retire my daughter or in meetings of parents and teachers this type of situations.
So, how do you handle difficult parents who get involved in schools?
From my point of view as a mother but trying to put myself in the place of teachers, my recommendations would be the following:
1) Have communication from the first day of classes. Communication is essential, this implies trust and respect between the teacher, the student and the representative, if there is no such thing, it can not lead to a good coexistence.
2) Establish rules. The teacher must establish their rules before the representatives although it sounds illogical because some parents believe they are the teachers and usually want to take control of everything.
3) Listen patiently. Although sometimes this is very difficult for some teachers, because sometimes we parents become insistent and the feeling of being listened to can calm us down a bit.
4) Get together even once a month with the parents of your students. Therefore, there you can expose the academic performance that students have had during the classes and so parents can clarify possible doubts that are related to the type of learning their children receive at school or any other concern.
Teachers have an important role in the life of all human beings and having to work with more than one student every day is a great responsibility. That is why we must give them the respect they deserve and try to improve our behavior in schools as parents and learn to take the differences regardless of what they are, in order to improve and strengthen the education of our children.
