Easter - time for caring.

As you know Easter weekend were just a few days ago. Everyone was up and running to get the weekend started! Families got together to share the weekends festivities. Everybody bought Easter eggs/chocolates or things that had to do with it, their was so much excitement.

Last week Friday me and my husband walked through the mall. All the windows of the shops were decorated and filled with specials for the weekend. I don't know about you but have you ever felt the craving just to buy stuff (that you don't need) when you are in a shop! It's like you will go crazy if you don't have it. It's the same when my kids are with me, they suddenly need everything!

This made me think... what is Easter about? Do you know? Are we teaching our kids to run up and down like a crazy person from one shop to another or are we teaching them that is actually about caring. Caring so much for someone else that what you have or who you are doesn't matter that much, even if it's just for one moment.

When I think back on Easter, as a child my parents wasn't that much into the chocolate rabbits or eggs but we celebrated it as a family. We always went to church and learned about the greatest, selfless gift we all have been given. I always thought the bible is just nice stories told but the older I get I realize the reality of it. That life is about caring and loving each other and what you can mean to someone else.

In today's world when I look at our children, I get sad and scarred because everything turned around to "what's it in for me" and not "what can I mean to you/someone?" This is quite hard to teach our kids because their is a lot of influences. We as parents need to teach our kids the same. How do we teach them to start caring for others and not just themselves?

For starters:

- Start in your family ... do something for someone in your family that they would not expect

- Teach your kids how to appreciate something small even if its a chocolate.

- Help them to see what it means if you treat someone else ... I promise you that the smile on someone else's face will make a big impact and they will want to do it more.

- Teach them the real meaning of caring.

- Help them to buy something for someone, it creates a giving heart.

Easter for me is about caring and giving! That is how I want to teach my kids ... to care for others.  It's in the small stuff and not always in the big gifts.

Eater is a season of love. Jesus took all our sins and shame alongside himself to the cross and then he rose to show us that they have all been conquered. So Easter is about showing love to other people just as Jesus showed love to us
