I was wondering one day that, "Have we ever asked our students or learners to tell us what they understand about subjects. Can the educators themselves truly define what Subject really is? Or are we just continuing the status quo as we meet it?"
These are the questions that made me want to know the true meaning of Subject.
Subject or Course is one of the most common topics that you would find in the discussions among both educators and learners within the academic sphere. For Educators, subjects are essential in shaping both the hearts and minds of the future generation. Whatever is passed on to the learners by the teachers tend to determine how their future would turn out is always encoded in the Subjects. This makes Subject an important aspect of education or learning that one should dedicate a valuable time to know its meaning and operate base on this knowledge.
In my research and inductive findings, I discovered that to subscribe to any kind of Educational System, there must be an OBJECT[IVE] in mind of the learner. Learners must have seen something or aspired to be someone before they agree to go through the process of learning. This is what the Educators should find out to know before structuring any learning plan for each student.
So learning is a systemic way of adding what the learners need to become or attain the OBJECT they desire in their mind. Therefore, bits by bits, Educators begin to dish out this OBJECT to the learner and the learner begins to receive this OBJECT in bits until s/he receives the whole package. These bits of the OBJECT are called SUBJECTS.
Therefore, I can truly define SUBJECT as the SUBSETS of the OBJECT.
Let me write more emphatically: SUBsets of the obJECT
With this definition, we should begin to look SUBJECT from a new perspective entirely. For example, if a child truly aspires to be a proud owner of chain of coffee shops around the world, then we must tailor her SUBJECTS based on the OBJECT she aspires or envisions for herself.
If we cross reference learner's aspirations with the educational system or curriculum, we could come up with another customized curriculum that is geared towards being an owner of coffee shops around the world. By the time this is done, the same curriculum can be replicated for those who have the same aspiration to own a global or local coffee shop. This will also lead to the creations of customized subjects that are being crafted out from the existing ones.
We must therefore not forget that SUBJECT is not superior to the LEARNER . . . Instead, the LEARNER determines the nature of the SUBJECTS.
