Have you ever wondered where the name ladybird comes from. Many years ago in Europe there was swarms and swarms of insects that was ruining the crops of the farmers. It was so bad that the farmers began praying to Virgin Maria with the hope that she could help them. Soon after praying ladybirds showed up and started eating all of the insects and comes to the Farmers Rescue.
The Farmers believe that Virgin Mary had send the ladybirds to help them. So they called the ladybirds "Beetles of our Lady " The red shells represented her cloak and the spots were symbols of her happiness.
