Shave it Down to Build it Up!

Unlike athletic affinity or a photographic memory, people aren't born with a talent to write. Writing is a skill that anyone can develop with practice.

In today's fast paced world, people want their information fast, short and to the point. But sometimes that is easier said than done.

We can easily fall into the trap of not giving our readers enough credit to figure things out from what we said without being spoon-fed.

One easy way to train ourselves to write in a tighter manner and eliminate unnecessary words is to edit someone else's work.

And one way to do this is Wikipedia.

Choose an article and start editing. Eliminate unnecessary words, but make sure the points remain easy to understand. Then compare yours with the original.

Another great exercise is to write the news in small segments. Stick to under 200 words, being sure to use all the important facts.

Edit to write better. Write on my friends!

We may not be born with a talent to write but one can be born to be a natural storyteller.
