Every semester in college, the last few weeks of class, students are given evaluation sheets to critique their teacher's performance and class planning. Students can write out comments about what they enjoyed about their classes and what they disliked. These evaluation sheets are a valuable tool for teachers.
Some teacher's may dread getting evaluations back. Hearing that students dislike their lectures or other class content can be a blow to self-esteem. When you put your heart and soul into teaching students, it is never fun to hear they didn't enjoy something you carefully designed for class. Even though getting negative comments is hard, it's not the end of the world and there is a bright side to evaluations. Teacher's shouldn't dread these evaluations and should look at them as tools to help them become better educators.
Education Never Stops For Teachers..
A good teacher is always learning something new. Teachers can learn from their students areas of their classes that need improvement. Instead of wilting away like a dying flower they should use teacher evaluations to grow and bloom.
A good teacher knows that no one is perfect. As a teacher you are also learning alongside your students. You discover new ways to teach and evolve as you gain more experience. Teacher evaluations can be a valuable tool in helping you improve your teaching performance. If your students don't like something about your class, make a goal to improve that issue next semester.
Teacher evaluation sheets might be the only way you can learn about your students experiences in your classes. By allowing them to anonymously write comments and thoughts, students can share their honest opinions about how a class made them feel. Students are given the opportunity to share their thoughts in the hopes that their comments will be heard to help improve the education students receive at their school.
Not All Evaluations Are Bad!
At the end of the semester or year if you are told it is time for students to review your classes don't panic. Embrace reviews as a useful tool in helping you become the best teacher you can be.
Teachers are awesome. I have fond memories of mine! So encouraging when people support you! You've got a new follower!
the teachers are the best ,good job.
Evaluation is needed.
Very well said.
@silverwhale this sounds like an excellent method to improve quality of teaching! I must admit I haven't heard of this practise, as I've mentioned before being involved in a preschool/junior primary school precludes certain practises. Wouldn't it be amazing of preschoolers had some method of providing feedback? It would assist in ECD tremendously!
