Charlie really does love his home. There’s a garden for him to play in, a beautiful view to stare out into and nearly every day there is some kind of new adventure to be had. As Charlie grew older, he became master of his turf and he felt it was his duty to keep all mischief (that wasn’t his of course) at bay.
The pup made sure no strange cats entered the yard, by barking at them hysterically. Moles scurried back into their holes with just a poke from his nose. Charlie took no nonsense. Until one very eventful morning when a troop of small and human-like creatures swung into his yard.
Monkeys. That’s what his humans said they are called. The marched in in a frenzy, liked they owned the place! Charlie was quite taken aback and not to sure what to make of this situation. He let out a loud bark, but the Monkeys didn’t budge. Instead they looked at him with what seemed like a smirk on their faces and continued to loiter around his turf, causing chaos in their wake.
The little pup was quite perturbed. He lifted his ears and started running back and forth in quite a panic. His human mom came out to settle him and told him that it was ok for the Monkeys to be in the yard, that it was their home too. She told him that the Monkeys were in fact the first to roam the land and that they roam wild and free. This calmed Charlie down a little, but he still wanted the furry-apes to know that he was the one who was in charge now.
With a few louder barks and snarls from the pup, the Monkeys soon got the message and backed off a little, keeping their distance. This satisfied Charlie enough, enough to now study the dudes a little and get to know them. He found them to be quite interesting creatures actually, they walked and played just like human kids do, yet they have long tails and grey fur covering their bodies, which is not human-like at all!
They hung around for quite some time, and before they left, Charlie started to play some games with them. Together they climbed onto the jungle gym, chased some flying ants and danced around on the grass like awkward ballerinas. They even chomped on some left-over Sugarcane together!
Charlie feels very privileged that he gets to share his home with these interesting and wild animals. Recently, the troop passes through almost daily and the puppy has been enjoying their visits. He loves “monkeying” around!
This is a chapter about the adventures of Charlie. We brought this little Basset pup home over Christmas and we are so deeply in love with him!
