Happy Halloween Steemians, today's blog is about a Halloween monster hunt I did with all the children in my school.
The children were set the task of finding all of the different monsters around the school, there were 20 different monsters to find hidden in various dark corners and some more obvious places to give them a bit of a chance! The children were put into mixed age groups, to allow cooperative learning. They were given a worksheet to write a description of where they found each monster.
Here are some of the gruesome creatures the students had to search high and low for!
Sorry, but I couldn't leave out the tyrant of terror - Freddy!(
I would recommend this activity, it took about half an hour from handing instructions to completion of the horrid hunt! The activity promoted great teamwork and some strategic planning. Some teams decided to scour high and low together, others decided to spread out to cover further ground. By spreading the monsters out from one side of the school to the other, the activity provided the children with a premium 20 minutes of lung-busting cardio! Furthermore they peer-scaffolded each other when writing the descriptions for the locations of each vile beast!
Below are a few pictures of some of the students in action, I have covered the faces of my students to protect their identity.
Well Steemians, thank you for reading, my children had a great time doing this. Comments are more than welcome and if you would like a copy of the worksheet, just let me know. I can add a link in for you, or send it on to your email!
