What is heuristic play?
Children at this age like to explore, discover and experience (THAT'S why AT THIS AGE, THEY WANT TO CLAIM ALL, AND TO PULL ALL OUT), precisely because they are exploring new things that catch their attention. The word heuristic means: TO DISCOVER AND TO RESEARCH. By nature, children between the ages of 12 months and 2 years of age love to get to know the world around them.

Main idea of this game:
The main idea of this game is not to offer children didactic, board or learning games, but rather to offer them different materials of all forms and classes, which without belonging to the group of didactic games, generates in children a great and extensive stimulation that positively favors the physical, mental, emotional and cognitive development of children.
The child with these different materials will be discovering and internalizing new knowledge, which will be discovered by itself (THE ADULT ALONE MUST BE NEAR TO OBSERVING AND CARING THAT NO HARM IS HARMED). You will discover this knowledge as you play with the different materials. These must be materials that can be used for opening, covering, screwing, throwing, hitting, etc.
This game offers a wide range of benefits for the growth of children, because they are learning through their experiences with the games, knowledge that they will apply in the future. Other benefits include:
✔ At the cognitive level, an expansion of their sensory and motor skills is achieved.
✔ At the social level they learn to be more social and communicative by expressing their needs and ideas.
✔ Develops their visual and perceptual abilities.
✔ Increases mental capacity for attention and concentration.
Rules for playing this game:
The objects used must be of natural origin preferably (covers, wood, stones, cardboard, sticks, etc.).
The time of this game is 45 minutes.
It should be done with a group of a few children and an adult watching.
Respect the phases that make up this game.
This game is played in three stages or phases:
First stage: The materials to be used must be organized in an orderly manner and according to their characteristics. The atmosphere must be calm, there must be nothing to distract the children. All materials must be on the floor, so that children can have easy access to them.
Stage two:
Third and last stage: Collect all materials and organize them in boxes according to their characteristics and nature.
Thought of a two-year-old boy.
It's not easy for me to grow up, as I get older, I start to discover things that worry me, and I want to know everything. As I grow older I realize that life is beautiful, even though it may seem difficult at times. But I'm just a little boy who wants to learn and grow.
Great post! Kids benefit so much from being allowed to explore by themselves! With my on daughter I have noticed that when I try to show her how to play with a toy she loses interest. Better to let them stay engaged and have independence on their own!
