I don't usually take macros because I don't have a macro lens, neither do I have a reversal ring. But macros are fascinating aren't they?
After long time, today I went to the backyard. I was fascinated by the idea of taking a macro of the insects.
I zoomed in completely, turned the flash on and took these pictures. They're cropped to look pleasing(I only have 18-55mm lens and this is the best I could do with it)
Nikon D3200
18-55mm zoom lens
Shot raw, preprocessed in camera(no enhanchements)
JPEG processed in picasa(auto contrast+auto color)
F/5.6
1/200 s
ISO 200
These are really good - amazing that you did it without a macro lens. The problem with macros is that they tend to be some of the most expensive lenses (and the best primes).
Sadly, I'm stuck with standard zoom lens! :-(
Very cool! You still managed to get a lot of detail out of the photos, especially the first photo!
The first lens you should get now is a 50mm. Its the cheapest lens Nikon offers and works perfectly with either the reverse ring, or macro stacking filters. Both of these work well (and are really cheap). I got the stacking filters to be able to control how close you get - with the reverse filter you can't. That's essentially the poor man's macro solution. I also cant afford that 105mm, although I would LOVE that lens :D
Thanks! I'm looking forward to buy a 50mm prime. I'll read more about macro stacking filter and see if I can get a good deal. :-)
nice images
it's amazing that you got these shots without a macro lens. awesome work!
cool pictures
Great shots, indeed. Wouldn´t have thought that these weren´t done with a proper macro lens.
Thanks!
I see a potential first prize here
And I'll buy a prime lens if I win! Yay! :)
the compound eyes of many insects do make them look scary at close up.
