Steemit Photo Challenge #52 - Street Photography - Entry 2 - 'Mother'

Here is my 2nd entry to this weeks #steemitphotochallenge #52 for the theme Street Photography.

Titled 'Mother', this was shot in Waku, a small village in the eastern remote region of Solukhumbu, Nepal. A woman finally reunites with her son after more than 15 years apart.

The story of this deserves a write up on it's own, which I will do so separately on steemit at a later time, but to tell a long story short, this lady's son (Shankar) fled the village with his friends when they were around 15 years of age to pursue a brighter future in the city of Kathmandu. Many years later, after many hustles and bustles, they each successfully started their own businesses, and came together as adults to form what’s called the Waku Foundation that aims to give back to their villages, to provide medication, education, and financial aid for those village(s) that are so remote that usually gets neglected by any form of government assistance, if any. This foundation was still in the planning stages back then, and I was lucky enough to be there at that time to follow their amazing trip down memory lane. This photo was taken right after the moment when Shankar reunited with his mother after many years apart. Seeing expressions like this made the 4 day trek to the village, all worthwhile.

Thank you @jamtaylor for running this awesome project, @finance2nomad for judging this week, and @berniesanders for sponsoring.

Looking forward to the next #steemitphotochallenge!

Have a great day! 😃

Beautiful capture! a smile that tells more than thousand words.. a tender gaze that shows all the love, trust and proud.. only if I can hold those hands, i dont think i know how to let go of them..
And hey such a cute shoe :D

She's got some style that's for sure, like that hair turban looks wicked.
Her smile tells a thousands words, and her squat... that only comes with experience lol

This is a beautiful photo of a beautiful moment! Just looking at her brings a smile on my face!

I know right! Her smile is contagious, and her squat is perfect 10/10 !

Great pic - 4 days of trekking must be worth it to have experienced their reunion. The Nepali people are so chill, it's hard to not just enjoy their presence :)

Thank you @steemmeupscotty! I totally agree with you the Nepalis are so chill, yet so powerful if you know what i mean. I guess it's the dhalbat in them :)
Btw, sorry for taking this long to respond, I've been offline for quite some time and just got back!

No worries - welcome back :) Yes, the Nepalis certainly are a special set of people :) Inner equanimity, dhalbat, and heaps more red blood cells I reckon ;)

You sure know them well! And of course, your profile picture tells it all!

Well, I must say I'm lucky to have quite a few Nepalese friends here in HK. Sons and daughters of ex Gurkha soldiers, which had several battalions here while HK was still a British colony, and part of the whole British Raj thing dating way back. Legendary warriors they were, and still are.

Thats awesome, the Gurkha soldiers are super respected here in Singapore as well. Incredible how one of the poorest nations in the world are also the strongest. Actually that makes a lot of sense. They must be!

Nice shot!! :)

Thank you @lydiachan! Im glad you like them, and im sorry for responding so late!

It's ok! :)

This photo is amazing! Makes me realize how bad my portraits are 😂
Great job, @kuenok! 😊

Thank you @anna-redhead! and sorry for taking so long to respond, I just got back to civilisation and back online :)
It's a big compliment coming from you! Your photos are always incredible!

Thank you so much, @kuenok! :D
I totally understand you, I just got back to steemit myself after lots of work I had to do this month ;)
