This is my entry for steemitsandwichcontest week 36 Thanks to @jaybird
Faux filet of fish with homemade tartar Sauce, grilled Jalapenos, red onion, broccoli stem and carrot slaw, and Tomato
I have heard about people using hearts of palm to do fake seafood recipes so I thought I'd give it a try. It was totally experimental but it worked out great.
I had to find a way to hold it together so I chose tapioca and a little tortilla flour, which I used quite a bit when I was in Mexico and it is good as a binder.
I didn't want to buy tapioca flour so I ground up tapioca. It really wasn't ground up so well but it worked fine. After leaving it in the fridge for several hours, the tapioca soften and the mixture was perfectly moldable.
I formed the faux fish fillets and coated them in flour, flax eggs and breadcrumbs.
This may be the last time I make my own bread until I have my own kitchen if ever. Many seafood dishes have herbs de province as a seasoning so I added that to the bread mixture when I made the buns.
I made a tartar sauce was made with vegan mayo, chopped pickles capers, grilled garlic, and lemon juice.
The filets were lightly browned in a pan then placed in the oven for about half an hour.

Amiga gracias, pero por que tu no hace arepas para contest. Esperando haha. Mi Espanol es malo haha.
I don't miss fish so I've never tried to seek out "faux fish" (and until today I'd never even heard of heart of palm) so I can honestly say I've learnt something today! Whether it tastes like the real thing or not I'd love to try this, preferably made by someone with better cooking skills than mine.
Hello there @lensessions! It definitely was not fishy. In fact it didn't have a strong taste at all but combined with the other things it was really good. I could have called it faux chicken but I wanted to add tartar sauce.
That is a fine looking sandwich. I'm looking for good vegan/vegetarian recipes and love sandwic hes, thanks.
Thanks so much @rlewing
This looks very good, I imagine the disaster at the time of making the bread, I am very well I call my attention was that tartara sauce I die for homemade sauces
@yesslife thank you so much! The tartar sauce is so easy and delicious.
Wow what an amazing and thoughtful piece.
Really enjoyed the sheer homemade aspects of this and the desire to experiment.
I love hearts of palm myself, especially in salads!
Also that tartar sauce sounds amazing !
Keep up the imagantive work!
Thanks @jaybird it was a fun experiment and it worked too. I never had hearts of palm before that I recall. I'll have to try it in a salad sometime :)
