Steemit Ultra Marathon – Game three – round one results

And they're off in the first leg of game three. Everyone is going out hard this time which should make for some interesting strategies later on in the game.

There are some brightly coloured mushrooms growing on the side of the track, intrigued, hopeful, you take a little nibble. Nothing happens. The little pixies on the branch by your head say - "See, we told you so.",

The sun comes out warming the trail nicely, making you feel good and reducing your feelings of tiredness.

You catch up to a small group in front and do a bit of slipstreaming, saving some enrgy and gaining some distance.

You hear the familiar sound of bagpipes on the wind, and round a corner to find a piper playing you on. You run past with a wave and a burst of speed to get away from the sound of a cat being strangled.

It starts to rain, making the trail slippery. You slow down a bit trying not to fall on your face.

Commentary

@wolfje is off to a flying start pounding up the trail to the top of My Kaukau and making short work of the Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park. But it has cost him in terms of health, and he's already looking pretty shaky.

@primersion has also gone hard and is not far behind, looking a little better, but still puffing hard and wishing for the next aid station.

The veteran players have taken a more measured approach at the start, but everyone has gone out competitively this time. It will make the all important round four very interesting indeed.

Runners

Well done on getting started. @cstrimel and @bigtx31 didn't give me their numbers so they have DNFed. So at least you are in the race. There is still along way to go, so hone your strategy and plan for a rest break at some stage.

As any formula one driver will tell you, the race is won and lost in the pits.

Dammit! I was in the loo when the gun went off! I guess I will go get a spa treatment and see you all at the finish.

No worries. I even tried waiting for a couple of hours just in case.. (ok, I was out running hehe)

I might have started out too hard on the first section 😂 Let's hope I will do better in the next section or I will be walking the rest of the way 😄

If you feel you need to rest to get back into the race, you can chose to rest for a turn and that will cut your health damage down and get you running again.

Resting is a big key strategy in ultras, so I've built it into the race as well.

And it is interesting that pretty much everyone went out hard this time. ;-)
