Steemhunt With A New Reputation System?

in #steemleo5 years ago

@steemhunt is one of the project I am following closely. Since its inception, the team showed itself to be innovative and cutting edge with what they were creating. This continues to this day.

They recently made an addition to their Reviewhunt site that is intriguing. It looks like a fun little addition that could garner some attention. But is it? Knowing the Steemhunt team, I am going to venture to say it is not.

There is now a "Social Media Big Mac Index". This is found on their site and it values how much a social media post is worth in Big Macs. This uses Steemit along with a host of the bigger social media accounts such as Twitter and Instagram.

Here is a quick video about it.

According to their post, you can do this for any account as long as it is on the platforms listed.

Here is Donald Trump's Twitter account.

And Ned's Steemit Account.

While on the surface this looks like a fun application to play with, I think there is a whole lot more here. I am not sure the team would take the time to develop something like this just to be a cute marketing piece.

The main idea of Reviewhunt is to have companies pay for the value that Reviewers bring to the table. Having a way to quantify what ones account is worth seems in line with that. We all know followers and gamed system skew the numbers.

According to the post, the team developed an algorithm that focuses upon engagement

We measure the engagement rate based on your previous posts rather than focusing on just the size of the channel. In other words, we calculate how much your followers respond to your content on average (likes, shares, views, comments, saves, etc).

This sounds like it is part of a bigger picture. Perhaps the team is developing a way to value each account, hence if one does take part in a Review, rewards can be distributed. Certainly a promotional article by Ned would be more valuable, based upon the account information, than mine. This is rather obvious on the surface yet now we see how much difference there is.

If my intuition is correct, this is very exciting. It means that Steemhunt is reaching across social media lines to perform their reviews. This only makes sense since the idea is to create a social media "buzz". Going to the established sites is a must.

Now there is a quantified value for everything the Reviewers bring to the table. Also, those with low Steemit scores, i.e. new people, are not handicapped if they bring a big presence on other social media. This could be very appealing to some heavy hitters on Twitter or Instagram.

Ultimately, Reviewhunt is more powerful the higher value the accounts of the people doing reviews. We know there are a lot of paid promotions on Twitter. This takes is another step further. It enables anyone with an account to monetize it to a degree.

This could help to attract people from outside the ecosystem who had success on social media over the years yet were not big enough to enjoy rewards from it.

it's not called reputation. it's called social proof to brands. they need it so they can look at the commissed group of brand advocates so they can extraploat potential ROI from putting together campaign and yes, this is tool is more than it seems! thanks for covering it! :)
