Renting gold cards is as good as ever
Heads up! Stacking +10% DEC per alpha/gold card in your active team is a big deal. I'm getting 50 dec at only 1300 rating by having alphas and golds out on the field. 20 more DEC than the usual 30 I would get using a normal team. Renting these can quickly become very, very profitable. I can get some for less than 0.01 sbd a day.

Steemmonsters market discoveries
After doing some math, it turns out 1 DEC has a floor price of $0.001 usd. This means every card who has it's price the same as it's converted DEC price is guaranteed to reap profit, since their upvote bot is up and running smoothly.
Considering how each card burns and how much DEC they are turned into, commons go for at least 0.015, rares for 0.06, epics for 0.30 and legendaries for 1.50. Double as much for alphas then multiply by 50 if it's a gold foil. This is why I bought my Swamp Thing for $15. It will be profitable no matter what.

Truth be told, I'm holding on to that Swamp Thing until steem prices go down. Then I'll turn it into essence and buy an upvote from the sm bot. Meanwhile, I can try renting it for really cheap. It's a useful level 2 gold foil epic, so somebody should get it eventually.

Steemmonsters Duels
Development on it steadily continues, as reported by @smitop.
In reply to @tsnaks who asked me if you'll be able to choose what card cap you want to use so a bronze collection doesn't battle a diamond collection, the answer is: we'll start with bronze cap only first then add options. Your duels will count only if they are set to bronze rating .

My entry on a gold Steemmonsters tournament
There was a challenge coming up for silver goild foil cards which I wanted to try. I've rented a few earth splinter cards from peakmonsters, but failed miserably, basically because I didn't rent enough cards.
The second match in my qualifiers had a 25 mana no-melee match. My team for it was like 4 critters meeting 17 mana. Terrible. Better prepare ahead next time instead of leaving it for the last minute.
Was it always this slow or does it pick up the pace every weekend?

They say +2 HP is too dominant. I wouldn't know, this card is too expensive. I did rent one of these this one time though and it really did seem very strong. Too bad for the holders, but I'm extremely glad to see the team really does care about gameplay balance. official post

Regarding the value of DEC. I think that this is somethink worth having an eye on in the future.
The new features like the Guild System will definitely attract more players and therefore drive the demand of DEC.

It is usd-pegged to $0.001 because of their upvote bot. It's price can go upwards, but certainly not downwards. Bull? Maybe, but the major DEC holders stll own a lot of it.

Yeah it's a good idea to start with bronze league only, since that is affordable to pretty much all the players.

whoaa so you're saying that I can rent some cheap(ish) gold/alpha cards, and just by using them I get more dec? I didn't realize that was a benefit of renting... I assumed it was just for higher level tournaments. Do you only do your dailies with them to earn positive dec?
